Capital One is looking for a Manager, Cyber Security Product Owner to help deliver cybersecurity solutions for Cryptographic Services within the Data Protection domain. This onsite role in McLean, VA focuses on turning product vision into execution, strengthening cyber capabilities with deep technical expertise, and partnering across teams to improve security outcomes.
Compensation: $197,300 - $225,100 per year (McLean, VA). Performance based incentive compensation may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
What you’ll work on
- Communicate and drive the delivery roadmap to technology teams by translating product vision into clear direction
- Define and advocate target persona, customer benefit, and feature value across teams
- Use expertise in how systems work and how code is built to support engineering teams in delivering value
- Represent the customer’s voice by applying knowledge of PKI, encryption algorithms, and data protection practices in public cloud environments
- Apply design thinking and analytics to inform product design
- Participate in research or design sessions for new features and new cryptographic domains, including post quantum cryptography
- Build and maintain a healthy product backlog in collaboration with Product Manager, Engineering, and Solution Architects, including user stories and details with comprehensive acceptance criteria (including technical debt and SRE considerations)
- Lead backlog refinement sessions to clarify cyber and customer intent, prepare epics and stories for technical breakdown and planning, and ensure requirements are understood
- Prioritize the Product Backlog to maximize business and customer outcomes while balancing technical and non-technical work, including cyber and operational risk reduction
- Act as a technical advisor to the Product Manager, engineering, and other stakeholders
- Collaborate across cross-functional teams and the Product Owner community, contributing to key Agile and SAFe ceremonies
- Support teams through escalation and impediment resolution
- Use data-driven insights to drive performance and innovation, and proactively identify when product metrics for security, resilience, or performance are underperforming
- Maintain credibility on technical and risk topics with your team(s) and technology organization partners
Skills and experience Capital One is looking for
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 5 years of experience in cybersecurity or information technology
- At least 4 years of experience evaluating, contributing to, or supporting development of cybersecurity capabilities
Preferred qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in cryptography
- 6+ years solving cyber technical challenges
- 4+ years translating business strategy and analysis into products
- 6+ years Cyber product owner experience
- 2+ years of experience in technical writing
- 2+ years in scaled agile product management
- 2+ years with cloud products such as AWS KMS or CloudHSM
- Experience in regulated financial services organizations or tech companies
- 2 or more professional certifications such as SAFe PM/PO, CISSP, GIAC (various), CISM, CCSP, AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Security
