Role overview
We are seeking an Experience Design IV, Product Design to steer design strategy and vision across portfolios for an interdisciplinary product design team supporting Digital Platforms and the Erica AI Virtual Assistant. You will serve as a trusted advisor to Directors, senior leaders, and the XD group, ensuring top-tier execution across a complex project portfolio. You will lead the team in vision, quality, execution, professionalism, and on-time, on-budget delivery. The role will shape experience strategy with deep domain knowledge and continually craft new frameworks to shift teams from execution toward strategy, influencing leaders, peers, and stakeholders, and ensuring roadmap initiatives meet an elevated standard of design and experience quality. This position contributes to a culture of creativity, energetic discourse, and accountability.
Ambiguity leadership and deliverables
This position guides multi-disciplinary XD delivery, processes, and end-to-end digital experiences through ambiguity at scale. Key duties include shaping strategy across stakeholders, operating autonomously without day-to-day direction, and crafting digital experience solutions for ambiguous problems. The role requires broad subject-matter expertise to define and deliver cohesive solutions across multiple initiatives that address client needs and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Craft and guide undefined problems into world-class software solutions, deliverables, or reporting within time, scope, and budget by reframing XD frameworks and practices.
- Establish vision and strategy across initiatives throughout the end-to-end product development lifecycle.
- Advise and facilitate alignment through ambiguous conversations with teammates, partners, and stakeholders.
- Operate autonomously across teams and drive progress through ambiguity and change.
XD IV, Product Design Responsibilities
- Lead, design, optimize and deliver useful and elegant, best-in-class digital experiences and vision from concept to execution and implementation, taking a holistic, multidisciplinary view.
- Apply a broad set of product design capabilities across user experience and visual design to shape complete vision and solutions across domains, programs, and lines of business.
- Be a trusted advisor at scale to leaders and partners with diverse stakeholders, including product management and engineering, building the network needed to drive decisions and vision.
- Serve as a craft and delivery expert on complex work while collaborating with product designers, design researchers, design operations, and design technologists, influencing across design, product, engineering, data science, legal, and compliance.
- Autonomously lead multiple designers through discovery and delivery workflows to develop advanced deliverables, providing oversight of information architectures, user flows and journey maps, wireframes, high fidelity designs, compositions, design specifications, redlines, and prototypes.
- Drive clear analysis by synthesizing findings, focusing efforts, providing decisive leadership amid ambiguity, and guiding teams toward the best design approach; identify patterns across projects and lines of business.
- Lead and design multi-modal interactions and digital experiences across conversation interfaces, web, mobile web, and native apps (iOS and Android).
- Demonstrate a full range of product design specialties including complex information architecture, cross-product navigation, conversation design, and advocacy for WCAG accessibility standards.
- Advocate for user research and translate insights into product direction and improved customer journeys.
- Lead, evaluate and benchmark existing product and service experiences, applying expertise, heuristics, competitive insights, and new frameworks to move discussions forward.
- Organize design critiques, mentor other designers, and manage multiple complex programs to deliver timely, high-quality outcomes.
- Lead decisively through ambiguity and influence collaboration, building and nurturing strong relationships.
- Work across multiple complex programs or lines of business, balancing time and stakeholder expectations while staying knowledgeable on project details.
- Drive the evolution of standards, reflect design system patterns in work, champion best practices, and set a vision for innovative digital, technology, and AI experiences.
- Model strong visual communication and storytelling skills, demonstrating thought leadership, challenging the status quo, and presenting independently while addressing questions.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of industry design experience in a multidisciplinary product design role, with a portfolio that demonstrates proven expertise.
- Proven leadership designing, optimizing, and delivering for complex systems, AI-enabled platforms or products at enterprise scale, including systems used by millions of users or spanning multiple business units across federated ecosystems.
- A strong track record leading the successful execution of large customer-facing digital experiences, multi-channel consumer-facing applications, responsive web, and websites, including complex, compliant, and transactional systems.
