Wizard Studios Inc is building an AI-native platform for creative work, with a focus on professional video editing. This Product Manager role owns the Wizard editor roadmap and priorities, working closely with Story editors and paid beta customers to decide what gets built next and how engineering should execute it.
What you’ll do
- Own the editor roadmap and keep priorities clear across parity, pro workflows, and agent features.
- Run discovery with Story editors and paid beta customers by watching sessions, identifying what slows them down, and deciding what matters most.
- Translate customer feedback, bug reports, and forward-deployed engineering asks into ranked work for engineering teams.
- Write clear specs and acceptance criteria that engineers can build from, grounded in real edit, color, sound, and delivery workflows.
- Define what success looks like for each release, then validate against usage and editor feedback after shipping.
- Contribute to how Oz fits into professional workflows so editors can keep control of every decision.
What you’ll bring
- Video editing and production experience: you have cut, finished, or supervised real productions, and you know NLEs like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid, or Final Cut Pro from the inside.
- Product judgment: you define what success looks like, test assumptions, and use evidence to decide what to build and what not to.
- Technical fluency: you can follow engineering discussions about codecs, color pipelines, or performance, and you know how to ask the right questions.
- User understanding: you ask strong questions, uncover the real problem, and connect product choices to how people work under deadline.
- Clear writing: your roadmaps, updates, and specs are short, specific, and trusted.
- Ownership: you can move work forward independently and follow through after launch.
Technologies
- C++
- Premiere Pro
- DaVinci Resolve
- Avid
- Final Cut Pro
Why this role matters
Wizard ships roughly twice a day into Story’s productions. Paid beta onboarding brings studios with their own deadlines, and the request stream is ongoing across parity, pipeline asks, agent workflows, and new product surfaces such as Wizard Headless, Wizlink cloud projects, and WizReview. Speed is not the constraint. The focus is on choosing well, with deep understanding of how editing and production actually work, so you can turn what editors say into a roadmap while knowing what not to prioritize.
Role context
You will report to Jack Gardner, Head of Product, and own the roadmap and priorities for the Wizard editor. The work includes spending real time with Story editors and beta customers to decide what gets built and in what order, plus daily collaboration with engineers, forward deployed engineers, and design to ship.
Your judgment is informed by having done the work, including cutting, finishing, or running productions yourself.
Show what you can do
- Product management experience in pro creative or media software from companies such as Blackmagic Design, Apple Pro Apps, Adobe, Avid, Frame.io, Descript, Runway, or similar organizations.
- Years as an editor, assistant editor, post supervisor, or producer, with a record of shaping the tools or workflows your team used.
- A product decision you made that changed how people worked, including what you learned.
- You do not need a product manager title. What matters most is how well you understand editors, how you decide, and what you have shipped.
About Wizard
Wizard is the AI-native platform for creative work, starting with the hardest creative workflow: professional video. In roughly six months, the team built a native C++ editor and a headless media runtime that humans, agents, and developers operate. Oz ingests footage at roughly 300× real time and edits at 30–60× real time, and every change it makes stays inspectable, editable, and reversible.
The guiding philosophy is creative as code: every decision is editable, controllable, and composable, with no generative slop that you regenerate and hope for the best. The approach emphasizes controllability over convenience, artist integrity over automation, and taste over throughput.
Wizard’s sister company, Story, is a production company making video for frontier AI labs and deep-tech companies. Story is the first customer and in-house design partner, and its editors cut real client work on Wizard every day.
The team has backgrounds from Industrial Light & Magic, Netflix, Apple, Epic Games, Lucasfilm, Blizzard, and 2K. This role is in person in San Francisco, CA.
