Job Description

Product Design Engineer position at ITT Inc. onsite in Valencia, CA, with a salary range of USD 112,700 - 168,500 per year.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with engineering leadership, finance, mechanical engineering, quality, testing, program management, and production support to advance project goals.
Work with cross-functional teams to develop prototypes and products that can transition to production.
Perform design and analysis to meet internal and customer requirements.
Design tooling and fixtures as needed to manufacture designs consistently and cost-effectively.
Assist in resolving technical problems in the lab or on the production floor.
Support evaluation and resolution of escapes and field issues reported by customers.
Generate accurate parts lists and digital bills of materials, including sub-assemblies, fasteners, tooling, and hardware, aligned with design requirements.
Develop procedures for parts and systems, such as Acceptance Test Procedures, Qualification Test Procedures and Reports, and Qualification by Analysis & Similarity Reports.
Create 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assemblies using ANSI and ASME Y14 geometric dimensioning & tolerancing and other best practices.
Develop product concepts, tooling designs, drawings, and parts lists based on customer data, loads, performance requirements, material applicability, and environmental constraints.
Lead and drive progress of assigned projects to ensure milestones are met.
Develop designs, data, specifications, processes, and reports throughout the product development lifecycle.
Present designs and technical findings at reviews.

Requirements

B.S. in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and 8+ years of engineering design and development experience.
Extensive experience designing mechanical components and systems using advanced composites, elastomers, and metals (including ECS components, ducts, and multi-layer panels).
Familiarity with aerospace composite and metal manufacturing methods and best practices.
Self-driven with strong problem-solving capabilities.
Willing and able to share knowledge with other team members in a collaborative manner.
Proficient in CAD modeling and engineering drawings using SolidWorks and/or Catia.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for designated ECS programs, guiding them to meet cost, schedule, performance, and certification targets.
Collaborate with engineering leadership, finance, manufacturing engineering, quality, testing, program management, and production support to achieve program objectives.
Steer the development of product concepts, detailed designs, tooling concepts, drawings, and parts lists based on customer data, load cases, performance requirements, material choices, and environmental constraints.
Drive design and analysis work that satisfies internal standards, customer specifications, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Oversee prototype development and lead efforts to transition designs into repeatable, cost-efficient production.
Design and validate tooling and fixtures needed to reliably manufacture ECS components and assemblies.
Serve as a technical authority for diagnosing and resolving complex issues encountered during development, testing, production, or field operation.
Lead investigations of escapes, non-conformances, and customer-reported field issues, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Ensure accurate generation of parts lists and digital BOMs, including sub-assemblies, fasteners, tooling, and hardware.
Lead the development of technical documentation such as ATPs, QTPs, qualification reports, and qualification by analysis and similarity justifications.
Produce and approve high-quality 3D models and 2D drawings in compliance with ANSI and ASME Y14 GD&T standards and industry best practices.
Present technical status, risk assessments, and recommendations at internal and external design and program reviews.
Mentor and support the technical development of junior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent technical field, with 10+ years of progressively responsible engineering design and development experience.
Extensive experience designing mechanical components and systems using advanced composites, elastomers, and metallic materials (eg ECS components, ducts, multi-layer panels).
Strong working knowledge of aerospace composite and metallic manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA).
Demonstrated ability to independently drive complex technical problems to closure.
Proven track record of knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical leadership within engineering teams.
Advanced proficiency in CAD modeling and detailed drawing creation using SolidWorks and/or CATIA.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to cross-functional and customer audiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
