UVA Medical Center is looking for a Product Owner to join the Digital Solutions Team under Marketing & Communications. In this hybrid role based in Charlottesville, VA, you will help shape UVA Health’s digital patient experience by translating stakeholder needs into an execution-ready backlog and supporting delivery through discovery, refinement, and sprint collaboration.

Role overview

The Product Owner owns and maintains the product backlog, ensuring it stays current with team priorities and reflects validated user needs. You will write user stories with explicit acceptance criteria, partner with delivery leadership and UX design, and track outcome and adoption metrics to assess the value of shipped work. You will also contribute delivery-informed perspective to strategy and roadmap planning across UVA Health’s digital ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Own, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog so it is always populated, sorted, and aligned to current team priorities.

Prioritize backlog work based on user value, delivery effort, and strategic alignment, and clearly defend decisions.
Maintain and enforce the team’s definition of done with the Delivery Lead.
Be available to developers during active sprints to answer scope and requirements questions without changing scope mid-sprint.

Partner with the Delivery Lead during backlog refinement to ensure stories are estimated and sprint-ready.
Conduct discovery alongside delivery, including user interviews, stakeholder sessions, and competitive landscape review, to validate user needs.
Collaborate with the UX Designer so research findings and usability insights inform backlog decisions.
Track product outcome metrics alongside delivery metrics, including adoption, task completion, and user satisfaction.
Connect Epics and Stories to overarching strategic intent in the backlog as it ladders to departmental and organizational goals.
Contribute to roadmap planning by surfacing constraints and opportunities identified during discovery.
Communicate planned work and delivery timelines to internal stakeholders and proactively manage expectations on scope and scheduling.
Keep the Manager of Digital Solutions informed on backlog direction and flag potential pivots early.
Translate stakeholder goals into prioritized backlog work balanced with team capacity.
Collaborate with the UX Designer, Delivery Lead, and Web Developers to ensure stories are technically feasible and experientially sound before sprints.
