Job Description

MPS Acoustics in Plano designs cut and folded felt wall and ceiling installations and adapts core products to fit custom applications. The Product Design Engineer will work hands-on to produce manufacturable, well-documented drawings in collaboration with Sales and Production, applying design-for-manufacturing and design-for-aesthetics principles to ensure repeatable, visually correct results.

Responsibilities

  • Design products in SolidWorks based on customer drawings, specifications, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Modify and adapt core MPS products to fit custom customer applications.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-aesthetics principles so products are buildable, repeatable, and visually correct.
  • Partner with the Sales team to interpret customer requirements and translate them into clear, easily producible designs.
  • Design and validate assembly and manufacturing jigs and fixtures as required.
  • Design, build, and evaluate prototypes for design changes and new product configurations.
  • Validate fit, manufacturability, and appearance before releasing designs to production.
  • Support new product development efforts as the product line expands.
  • Develop and maintain product documentation, including models, drawings, and product standards.
  • Write clear assembly work instructions, SOPs, and other technical documentation as required.
  • Establish and apply drafting best practices and revision control so designs stay accurate and consistent.
  • Identify and execute product and process improvements that reduce cost, defects, rework, and build time.
  • Drive permanent design fixes and verify that changes deliver the intended result.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to production teams.
  • Support resolution of quality issues, including root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Review drawings produced by drafters and provide technical guidance when needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of product design or mechanical engineering experience (made-to-order or high-mix manufacturing preferred).
  • Assembly jig and fixture design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Competence in SolidWorks modeling and drafting best practices.
  • Demonstrated product design experience.
  • Experience developing product standards documentation.
  • Strong technical writing ability (SOPs, work instructions, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM).
  • Experience designing to aesthetic and appearance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with parametric modeling tools and SolidWorks sheet metal tools.
  • Sheet metal design background.
  • New product development (NPD) experience.
  • Experience in architectural products, acoustics, or a related manufacturing industry.

  • Base salary: USD 70,000 - 80,000 per year
