Job Description

Delta Dental of NJ is seeking a Product Owner to support its Transformation Management Team (TMO). In this hybrid role, you will connect organizational strategy to product execution by aligning goals, shaping requirements, managing an agile backlog, and coordinating delivery across internal cross-functional teams and vendor partners.

Role Focus

You will align product goals with overall organizational strategy, define and maintain a prioritized agile backlog, and work to deliver business outcomes. The position emphasizes requirement elicitation, roadmap alignment with stakeholders, and facilitating agile ceremonies that bridge business and technical needs across corporate workstreams and partner integrations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive value by aligning product goals with organizational strategies.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define product strategy, guide development, and advance the product vision.
  • Develop well-scoped requirements and prioritize work for engineering teams, dev ops, and data analysts.
  • Execute product commitments to deliver meaningful business outcomes.
  • Maintain a prioritized product backlog, specifying features, value, function, security, and testing needs.
  • Support an agile SDLC by identifying and documenting Epics, Features, PBIs (Product Backlog Items), and tasks.
  • Facilitate communication between business and technical teams to ensure alignment to both business requirements and technical standards.
  • Use agile methods such as user stories and acceptance criteria to define functional needs.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer by coordinating communication between stakeholders and the agile core team.
  • Collaborate with sponsors to build a product roadmap aligned to business and technical goals.
  • Break down large initiatives into Epics, Features, and PBIs based on team capacity.
  • Lead requirement elicitation and translate business needs into user stories and technical requirements.
  • Write clear and concise requirement specifications in natural language.
  • Review and update backlog items, priorities, and specifications with project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies including sprint planning, sprint refinements, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
  • Ensure change management practices are followed to maintain and communicate requirement baselines.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of product management, business/systems analysis, or project management experience, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and execution skills for complex work.
  • Healthcare and insurance background; CX experience preferred.
  • Agile familiarity including Scrum, XP, and SAFe, along with traditional waterfall methodologies.
  • Experience managing product development life cycles and collaborating across functions.
  • Proficiency with agile tooling such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
  • Strong communication skills and relationship-building across diverse teams.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Data-driven approach with strong analytics and testing best practices.
  • Ability to deliver large-scale product features and improvements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven prioritization skills, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to adapt to changing business needs.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in product management, project management, or business analysis.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to sit and perform extensive keyboard and PC work.
  • Ability to walk, talk, or hear; occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attendance standards.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • Role may require signing a confidentiality agreement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, or consulting roles is highly preferred.
  • PMI ACP, PMI PMP, IIBA CBAP, or SAFe certifications are considered a plus.

Compensation and Work Setup

  • Salary range: USD 90,000 - 105,000 per year
  • Location: Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ (hybrid)
  • Schedule: in office Tuesdays and Wednesdays, remote Mondays and Thursdays and Fridays
  • Employment: Full-time

Additional Information

The ideal candidate will work closely with business, technical, and vendor partners to support the delivery of key corporate workstreams. This role is focused on identifying business value for feature delivery and managing a prioritized backlog for software development and business process improvements within an agile framework. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address pain points across platforms and through partner integrations. The role also involves improving healthcare systems, and a strong foundation in healthcare and insurance is preferred.
