About the role
Elemental Scientific is seeking a motivated Semiconductor Product Design Engineer to contribute to hardware design, hardware‑software integration, and the optimization of automated analytical and robotic systems for semiconductor applications. This position centers on developing new mechanical assemblies, improving integration with control systems, and advancing automation products for precision semiconductor workflows.
Responsibilities
- Develop and prototype new hardware assemblies for robotic systems and analytical instruments, ensuring robust mechanical design that is manufacturable.
- Configure, test, and troubleshoot the interface between robotic hardware and control software to achieve reliable communication and precise movement.
- Conduct routine and advanced automated analyses of semiconductor process chemicals to verify purity and quality.
- Operate advanced analytical instruments, including robotic systems and mass spectrometers, and other high-precision tools.
- Collaborate on refining automation products, providing feedback on hardware performance and software responsiveness to drive engineering improvements.
- Travel to customer sites to supervise hardware installations, calibrate software interfaces, and deliver hands-on end-user training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (examples include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Physics).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating complex mechanical designs, assemblies, and technical drawings.
- Strong interest in how software commands translate into physical hardware actions across sensors, actuators, and motor controllers.
- Analytical, logical approach to troubleshooting hardware and software issues in real time.
- Reliable, responsible, and capable of working independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.
- Solid computer literacy and the ability to clearly communicate technical hardware issues to the design team.
