Technical Product Owner

At Meijer, the Technical Product Owner plays a key role in bringing vendor solutions to life. This position bridges business outcomes and technical implementation by coordinating the installation, configuration, and ongoing improvement of vendor software and hardware package applications within an Agile environment.

Working alongside vendors, customers, ITS colleagues, and stakeholders, you help assess technologies, present solution options, and support AI-enabled assessments and deployments. The role also applies SAFe and ITIL practices to ensure delivery, acceptance, and secure operations align with organizational expectations.

What you’ll do

• Coordinate, implement, and configure vendor software applications.
• Develop interfaces to vendor software applications and assist with deploying solutions.
• Optimize vendor packages to meet SLA and functional requirements.
• Provide high-level technical consulting support for vendor applications and interfaces.
• Evaluate AI-enabled and GenAI vendor packages and platforms as part of solution assessments, proofs of concept, and roadmap decisions (including Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Copilot Studio, and Power Platform).
• Partner with the AI and Automation team to shape AI-driven features, including defining acceptance criteria that address prompt quality, retrieval grounding, evaluation, and responsible AI considerations.
• Coordinate with ITS Security and Infrastructure teams to support secure deployment of vendor applications.
• Assist product owners with systems analysis and documentation updates for business processes.
• Interface with Product Owner and IT partners to develop acceptance criteria for project features and user stories, and ensure acceptance criteria are met.
• Work within the SAFe Agile framework and use ITIL best practices.
• Participate with IT members, customers, and stakeholders in new product reviews, tests, and pilots.
• Conduct feasibility studies and proofs of concept to evaluate solutions.
• Support production operations and maintenance of applications in accordance with ITIL as needed.
• Participate in all team Agile ceremonies.
• May provide facilitation for Agile team activities within Meijer ITS as an acting Scrum Master.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s or equivalent education.
• Any SAFe certification (SSM, SASM, SA, SPC, SPMPO).
• ITIL Foundations Certification.
• Preferred experience in business application design, development, installation, and modification.
• Knowledge of project management techniques (cross-functional experience is highly desirable).
• Familiarity with business systems and experience on cross-functional project teams.
• Preferred experience on Agile teams.
• Strong business knowledge and hands-on experience managing vendor packages for the business.
• Preferred working understanding of GenAI concepts, including large language models, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, and agentic workflows.
• Preferred familiarity with the Microsoft Azure AI ecosystem, including Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft Copilot Studio.
• Preferred knowledge of responsible AI practices, evaluating AI/LLM vendor packages, and defining measurable success criteria for AI-enabled features.
• Preferred exposure to AI-assisted delivery practices such as spec-driven development, context/prompt engineering, and GitHub Copilot.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business terms.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
• Knowledge of secure code design principles and practices.
• Preferred working knowledge of the SAFe Agile framework.
• Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across functions and foster commitment to tasks.
