Job Description

Make technology strategy actionable by partnering with business and IT to plan, deliver, and improve the features that move the organization forward. This hybrid role with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona supports agile execution and keeps the focus on business outcomes through clear backlog ownership, user story development, and acceptance support.

As the Agile Product Owner for EDW, you will coordinate delivery using agile methodology, processes, policies, practices, guidance, and tools. You will also collaborate across teams to ensure work is traceable from requirements to delivered features, with support for both Agile Product Owner I and II levels through mentoring and leadership.

What you’ll do

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate projects to meet goals and objectives within time frames and funding parameters.
  • Maintain accountability for the product backlog and prioritize user stories with team members.
  • Create business user stories and decompose features into nontechnical user stories.
  • Partner with the Scrum Master to support the Scrum framework and represent business capabilities at the team level.
  • Review test cases against user story acceptance criteria, and formally accept user stories after criteria are met.
  • Ensure traceability from requirements to features and user stories.
  • Periodically reprioritize the product backlog based on customer feedback, market changes, and business priorities shared by the Product Manager.
  • Participate in backlog grooming, retrospectives, defect management, and team release-planning sessions.
  • Stay accessible for sprint planning, daily Scrum meetings, and to remove barriers that slow progress.
  • Create and deliver presentations, and facilitate or create procedures and processes that support advancing technologies or capabilities.
  • Evaluate high-level project information and forecast required work effort by assessing project components.
  • Support service-level agreements between the department and operational or technical areas.
  • Provide peer-level review and mentoring to Agile Product Owner I employees, including the ability to perform essential functions of lower levels.
  • Participate in corporate quality and data-governance programs.
  • Maintain a full-time schedule, defined as working at least 40 hours per week, plus additional hours as requested or needed to meet business requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in the healthcare or insurance field, emphasizing business analysis and/or computer technology, including electronic data interchange.
  • 2 years of experience communicating with diverse groups inside and outside the business.
  • 3 years of experience decomposing high-level initiative information to evaluate components and forecast required work effort.
  • High school diploma or GED (general field of study).
  • Achievement of an Agile Product Owner certification within 12 months of placement.

Hybrid work location

This hybrid work opportunity requires residency and work performed within the State of Arizona.

  • Intermediate PC proficiency

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft applications and suites, Windows Server, and networking applications
  • Strong understanding of project-management and Agile best practices and quality-improvement principles
  • Strong analytical skills for independent decision-making
  • Ability to prioritize multiple priorities under limited time constraints
  • Strong verbal and written communication; ability to interact professionally with executives, managers, and subject-matter experts
  • Experience working with and managing third parties
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Ability to generate reports from available data and make decisions based on reported information
  • Ability to write and present business documentation

This leader partners with key business and IT stakeholders to develop strategic technology plans that affect the company. The Agile Product Owner delivers features and provides the organization with agile methodology, processes, policies, practices, guidance, and tools.
