Job Description

Bain & Company’s PEG Innovation practice is expanding its product leadership for the private equity due diligence platform. The Product Owner will own the roadmap, backlog, and success metrics for a defined product area, guiding discovery and cross-functional delivery with Engineering, Design, Platform, Data, and AI squads to ship iterative, high-quality capabilities for private equity analysts.

Details

  • Location: Austin, TX (hybrid)
  • Salary: USD 140,875 - 176,750 per year
  • Minimum experience: 6 years
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap and backlog for an assigned product area such as Deal Screening, Due Diligence workflows, Portfolio Monitoring, or Report Builder; define outcomes, milestones, and sequencing
  • Lead continuous discovery with stakeholders including analysts, associates, and partners to identify high-value problems, validate hypotheses, and translate insights into delivery work
  • Write and maintain epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria to enable autonomous squad delivery; ensure work is testable, measurable, and aligned to user outcomes
  • Define success metrics and instrumentation requirements for features; ensure releases have clear baselines and post-release measurement plans
  • Make prioritisation trade-offs across scope, quality, risk, and time; keep the squad focused on the highest-impact outcomes
  • Partner with Engineering to shape feasible technical approaches and manage dependencies such as platform services, data contracts, and AI service integration
  • Collaborate with Design to ensure UX quality, accessibility, and edge-case handling are addressed early; align on iterative delivery plans
  • Own release readiness for your scope including stakeholder communications, enablement/training materials, change notes, and rollout strategy
  • Drive post-release learning by analyzing adoption and performance, conducting outcome reviews, and iterating based on evidence
  • Manage squad ceremonies from a product perspective, including refinement, planning input, review facilitation, and outcome-focused retrospectives
  • Serve as the primary interface for your product area to cross-functional partners such as Security, Data Governance, Platform Engineering, Data Platform, and Agent / AI; align on requirements and constraints early
  • Establish and maintain a clear Definition of Done for product outcomes with Engineering and QA covering quality, observability, documentation, and operational readiness
  • Use AI tooling to accelerate PRD drafting, stakeholder synthesis, and prioritisation artifacts; apply editorial judgement and validate facts before sharing
  • Support hiring, interviewing, and mentoring of Product Analysts or Associate PMs where applicable; raise product practice standards through coaching and feedback

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years of product management, product ownership, business analysis, consulting, or product strategy experience delivering software in production environments
  • Proven ability to own a backlog and lead cross-functional delivery (Product/Design/Engineering), including prioritisation and dependency management
  • Track record translating ambiguous stakeholder needs into well-scoped epics/stories with measurable outcomes and acceptance criteria
  • Experience using data to inform product decisions: defining KPIs, interpreting dashboards, and driving iteration based on evidence
  • Strong stakeholder management skills; able to communicate trade-offs, progress, and outcomes to senior leaders
  • Outcome-driven roadmap ownership: sets OKRs and success metrics, sequences work pragmatically, and maintains focus on measurable impact
  • Clear requirement production: PRDs, stories, and acceptance criteria with anticipation of edge cases and testability
  • Prioritisation discipline: explicit trade-offs balancing user value, delivery risk, quality, and operational considerations
  • Cross-functional leadership: aligns Engineering, Design, Data Platform, and Platform teams; manages dependencies without surprise work
  • Product analytics: comfortable designing KPIs, tracking adoption, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative signals
  • Excellent communication: concise executive updates, clear decision logs, and effective stakeholder facilitation
  • Understanding AI feature implications for users (non-determinism, latency, context limits, hallucination risk) and integrating constraints into requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Collaboration with the Agent / AI squad to define evaluation-ready requirements (golden scenarios, quality thresholds, HITL needs) and ensure regression gates
  • Use of AI tooling to accelerate PRDs, OKRs, prioritisation drafts, and stakeholder communications; verify accuracy and remove speculation before sharing
  • Ensure AI features meet safety and data-handling requirements (PII handling, auditability, egress constraints) by coordinating early with Security and Governance
  • Customer-focused mindset: deeply understands PE workflows and optimises for real analyst outcomes
  • Clear leadership: reduce ambiguity for squads through crisp requirements, priorities, and success metrics
  • Responsible follow-through: measure results post-release and iterate based on evidence
  • Uses AI tooling to accelerate work while maintaining judgement and accountability for decisions and artifacts
  • This role follows a hybrid model requiring in-office presence at least 1 day per week
