Product Owner
Job Description
The Product Owner will lead IT delivery of initiatives using Agile methodology, translating business and technology needs into outcomes that enhance the member experience and improve operational efficiency at Skyla Credit Union. The role also supports requirements and specification work, backlog activities, cross-team coordination, and regulatory compliance.
Role Focus
As the Product Owner, you will be empowered and accountable to drive business and technology outcomes including improving the member experience, implementing regulatory and compliance changes, increasing business operational efficiency, launching enhancements, and retiring legacy systems. Delivery will align tactical decisions with strategic architectural principles.
This position involves collaboration with department heads, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to review business process flows, feasibility, cost analysis, and trends. You will also develop functional specifications and contribute to production of technical specifications and documentation related to ticket and project requests.
Responsibilities
- Convert high-level requests into business justification, requirements, and best practice functional specifications, with attention to security, business needs, industry standards and trends, scalability, and speed to market.
- Conduct regular meetings with multiple departments to review processes, provide updates on in-flight work, and clarify backlog items.
- Participate in backlog grooming sessions by gathering appropriate resources.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency, automation, and improvement across financial services.
- Assist in developing KPIs to track product and project success after go-live and determine whether adjustments are needed post-launch.
- Develop deep knowledge of financial services technology, products, services, and the credit union’s existing infrastructure.
- Meet with vendors to stay informed about technology roadmaps, capabilities, and limitations for current and future technology stack needs.
- Support the creation of test and deployment plans as part of technical requirements gathering.
- Partner with architecture, user experience, and engineering teams to define software releases and features, and oversee end-to-end software development and release.
- Work with training teams and review software changes, and respond to questions from business members related to technology and software launches.
- Lead regular software and service reviews with leadership and maintain key metrics used to measure release success across the business.
- Maintain a documented view of competitive landscape and use available data to support differentiated software and IT services.
- Collaborate with the strategy team on go-to-market strategy, including targeting prospective customers and leveraging competitive differentiators.
- Ensure all work complies with federal regulations and credit union policies and procedures, including Bank Secrecy and the USA Patriot Act.
- Perform duties in accordance with the credit union’s values, mission, and vision.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or similar.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the financial services vertical.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate ideas and plans to diverse audiences.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in Project Management, Agile methodologies, and functional requirement gathering.
- Knowledge of both cloud-based and on-premises systems and capabilities.
- Preferred experience: Jack Henry Symitar, Credit Union, and Database Technologies.
- Ability to work in a team to resolve complex issues and break processes down into micro-services/projects.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to receive and maintain confidentiality.
