Job Description

Charles River Laboratories is hiring a dual-role Product Owner and Scrum Master for its Microbial Solutions site in Charleston, SC. This on-site position supports clear product direction, backlog management, and high-quality delivery using Agile and Scrum practices, while also facilitating Scrum ceremonies and removing impediments.

Role Scope

You will collaborate with Product Managers to define and communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmap. As the Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams, you will facilitate core Scrum events, coach teams on Scrum principles and best practices, and help sustain delivery performance through metrics tracking and risk management. You will also serve as a primary liaison between stakeholders and the development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Managers to define and clearly communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Create, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog aligned to customer needs and business objectives.
  • Write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and high-quality functional requirements.
  • Partner with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather feedback and translate it into actionable work items.
  • Act as Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams to ensure adherence to Scrum principles and best practices.
  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Track and communicate team performance metrics such as velocity, cycle time, and burndown.
  • Identify and mitigate risks impacting delivery timelines or product quality.
  • Work closely with software developers, testers, UX designers, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a Product Owner, Scrum Master, Business Analyst, or similar role in software development.
  • Proven experience delivering software products using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience translating user needs into actionable requirements and user stories.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar Agile lifecycle management tools.
  • Familiarity with Git source control, Azure DevOps, Figma, and Snyk.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand software workflows and describe front end and back end functionality.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
