Product Owner – PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable & Billing

Motion Industries is hiring an on-site PeopleSoft Product Owner – PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable & Billing in Birmingham, AL. This role helps keep Billing, AR, and General Ledger activity accurate, reconciliable, and aligned end to end. What you’ll work on

• Serve as the functional subject-matter expert for PeopleSoft Billing and PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable (AR).
• Analyze requirements and design functional solutions for billing, invoicing, receivables, payments, collections, deductions, and accounting processes.
• Support the full billing transaction lifecycle: from source data through invoice creation, AR item generation, payment application, accounting entry creation, and posting to PeopleSoft GL.
• Configure and maintain PeopleSoft functional components, including business units, bill types, bill sources, accounting rules, item types, payment terms, customer setup, and accounting distributions.
• Partner with technical teams to define functional specifications for interfaces, reports, conversions, enhancements, and integrations.
• Monitor, investigate, and resolve exceptions across billing, receivables, accounting, and integration activities.
• Validate accounting entries and reconcile activity between Billing, AR, and GL to ensure balances remain correct.
• Support month-end and year-end close by performing reconciliation, accounting review, and issue resolution.
• Lead or support testing, including test planning, test-case development, user acceptance testing, and defect management.
• Create and maintain process documentation, functional specifications, training materials, and operational procedures.
• Provide production support and guidance to business users on PeopleSoft Billing and AR processes.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve automation, enhance data quality, and increase process efficiency.

What you’ll need

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Business, or related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
• Significant functional experience supporting PeopleSoft Billing and PeopleSoft AR modules.
• Strong understanding of PeopleSoft Billing processes, including bill entry, bill finalization, invoice generation, bill adjustments, and accounting.
• Strong understanding of PeopleSoft AR processes, including item management, payments, deposits, maintenance, collections, deductions, write-offs, and accounting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of integration and data flow between PeopleSoft Billing, AR, and GL.
• Experience with PeopleSoft accounting entry generation, journal creation, journal interfaces, and reconciliations.
• Ability to analyze complex business and system issues, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
• Experience writing functional requirements and collaborating with technical developers and integration teams.
• Experience supporting system testing, production deployments, and post-implementation support.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

PeopleSoft AR & Billing integration knowledge

• Billing transactions are created from online entry, external source systems, or interface files.
• Billing processing generates invoices and creates receivable items in PeopleSoft AR.
• AR manages open items, customer balances, payments, maintenance activities, collections, deductions, and adjustments.
• Accounting entries are generated for Billing and AR activity based on configured accounting rules and distributions.
• Journal entries are passed to PeopleSoft GL for journal processing, review, posting, and financial reporting.
• The role supports accurate, reconcilable data, accounting treatment, and balances across Billing, AR, and GL.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with PeopleSoft Financials implementations, upgrades, or major enhancement initiatives.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft Integration Broker, file-based interfaces, APIs, or middleware integrations.
• Experience with PeopleSoft Query, reporting tools, and data analysis.
• Knowledge of financial controls, revenue processes, receivables management, and GL reconciliation.
• Experience working in a large, multi-business-unit environment.
