Tool/Product Design Engineer

Astech Engineered Products, Inc. is hiring an experienced Tool/Product Design Engineer to lead tooling and product design efforts for a new product line supporting major aerospace commercial aircraft structural assembly. Working under minimal direction, you will manage multiple high-complexity tooling initiatives while coordinating across engineering, manufacturing, and external partners to keep programs aligned to business and program objectives.

What you’ll do

• Plan, conduct, and orchestrate multiple high impact tooling projects running concurrently.
• Coordinate the work of engineers, technicians, tool and die makers, suppliers, and other support personnel.
• Partner with Product Line Management, Accounting, Purchasing, manufacturing, Production Design, and suppliers/customers to execute tooling and design activities.
• Manage tooling program budgets and schedules to meet business and program objectives.
• Troubleshoot tooling process issues related to production downtime, lost or low efficiency, ergonomics, safety, or quality deviations; set priorities for tool repairs as needed.
• Provide leadership on issues tied to cost, quality, process, schedule, and people to support the company’s business culture and objectives.
• Support a safe workplace and protect the environment by establishing policy support and adhering to government regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

• A 4-year degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (an advanced degree is desirable).
• 5-10 years of directly related experience in a manufacturing environment, including the ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
• Strong demonstrated background in mechanical, chemical, and machinery.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Direct compliance with applicable laws and regulations and product quality standards issued by OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
• Reinforces commitment to quality performance across tasks and projects.
• Directs management involvement in the development and implementation of an approved Affirmative Action Plan in accordance with EEO compliance and the intent of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds periodically.
• Repetitive hand use and good manual dexterity.

Compensation and location

Santa Ana, CA (onsite). Salary range: USD 130,000 - 150,000 per year.
