Job Description
Argonne National Laboratory is hiring an Agile Product Owner to help teams deliver software improvements that align with stakeholder needs and customer expectations. This mostly remote role in Lemont, IL focuses on strong Agile execution, backlog stewardship, and clear acceptance of user stories so delivery stays predictable and value-focused.

What you will do
- Translate business needs into near-term prioritization decisions that maximize value delivered.
- Support the Product Manager and Business Application Owner in communicating vision, strategy, and roadmap during application development and enhancements.
- Lead planning activities to promote team autonomy and maintain predictability.
- Own and manage Scrum team backlogs by ensuring user stories are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned to organizational goals.
- Accept user stories across all effort categories by confirming acceptance criteria are fully met.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing, collect feedback, and use it to iterate on product features.
- Ensure features are delivered on time and meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Partner with other teams to manage and deliver projects on schedule while adhering to quality standards.
- Define and align stakeholders and Scrum teams on near-term development roadmaps, milestones, and release plans.
- Participate in Scrum events and team meetings while modeling Argonne’s core values.
- Build effective working relationships and use established contacts to support delivery.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that increase organizational maturity and efficiency and improve customer satisfaction.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and at least 6 years of relevant experience in product ownership or product management.
- Demonstrated experience in Agile methodologies for software development projects.
- Prior experience in product ownership or product management.
- Strong leadership, influence, and relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on prioritization.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values: impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship is required to comply with federal regulations and contract requirements.
