Data Product Owner
Job Description
Marathon Health is seeking a Data Product Owner to lead cross-functional delivery of outcome-based data solutions for internal and external stakeholders. This onsite role in Pearl City, HI focuses on product vision, backlog ownership, and enabling self-service through foundational data components.
Role Overview
The Data Product Owner leads several cross-functional scrum teams to deliver analytics and reporting outcomes through a governed, reusable foundation. The role owns the data product vision, roadmap, and prioritized backlog, selecting technology approaches such as Tableau, Snowflake with Cortex, and Python/Streamlit to align stakeholder needs with measurable business impact.
Core Responsibilities
- Own the product vision, roadmap, and prioritized backlog for a portfolio of outcome-based data solutions serving internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead multiple scrum teams day to day, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, prioritization, and removing blockers while keeping teams focused on measurable outcomes over output volume.
- Reconcile input from the Director of Business Intelligence on analytics and reporting outcomes and from the Technical Product Manager on technical and product execution into a single prioritized backlog.
- Surface priority or direction conflicts early and drive resolution to prevent delays.
- Translate stakeholder goals into clearly defined problems, success metrics, and acceptance criteria, and validate that delivered solutions move those metrics.
- Select the right delivery approach for each problem, such as Tableau, Snowflake/Cortex agents, or Python/Streamlit portals, based on the outcome and audience rather than a default technology preference.
- Leverage AI and modern tooling to accelerate discovery, prototyping, development, and iteration across teams.
- Build and steward reusable foundational components, especially the semantic model, so stakeholders and other teams can build reliably on a trusted, governed layer.
- Establish self-service enablement through documentation, patterns, and guardrails that help users create solutions with confidence.
- Partner with Product leaders and internal stakeholders to maintain alignment on priorities, tradeoffs, and delivery status.
- Anticipate and absorb change from both Technology and Product, adjusting priorities and communicating impacts without losing delivery momentum.
- Ensure delivered solutions meet quality, security, and compliance expectations appropriate for internal and external use.
- Track adoption, usage, and business impact, using insights to continuously refine the data solution portfolio.
- Define success metrics and business outcomes for major initiatives and hold teams accountable for measuring realized value after delivery.
- Ensure solutions follow established release, change management, and production readiness processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus at least 7 years of proven experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role delivering data, analytics, or BI products, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated success leading Agile and Scrum teams, ideally more than one team concurrently.
- Strong background in data and analytics, with end-to-end reasoning for data products from source to consumption.
- Experience in healthcare, population health, benefits administration, or related regulated industries preferred.
- Experience with data governance, data quality, and master data initiatives preferred.

- Experience delivering modern analytics using Tableau, Python, and Streamlit (or comparable frameworks for lightweight portals and insight packages).
- Practical fluency leveraging AI and LLMs to build, accelerate, or augment data solutions.
- Strong grasp of semantic modeling and the importance of a reusable, governed foundation for self-service.
- An outcome-first, technology-agnostic mindset focused on selecting the right tool for the job.
- Ability to adapt calmly to shifting Technology and Product priorities.
- Diplomatic and decisive stakeholder management, making prioritization calls when direction conflicts arise.
- A builder-and-enabler orientation that values helping others create solutions.
- Curiosity and continuous learning as the tooling landscape evolves.
- Excellent communication skills with Product leadership and non-technical business users.
- Experience managing product backlogs in Azure DevOps or similar tools.
- Awareness of data governance, security, and privacy considerations, with sensitivity to regulated data (PHI) as a plus.
- Comfort working across a range of delivery technologies rather than specializing in a single stack.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-changing, ambiguous environment.
- Track record translating business needs into prioritized, outcome-driven work and measuring results.
- Experience operating in a matrixed structure, taking direction from multiple leaders while managing competing priorities.
