Product Owner
Job Description
The Product Owner supports Liberty Mutual's Quoting Platform within USRM's Distribution Solutions team, delivering platform capabilities and reusable solutions across Win Now and Frontier to meet the needs of every Distribution channel and persona for current and future insurance products. This onsite role reports to a Senior Product Owner or Director Product Owner in the Quoting portfolio and is based in Boston, MA. The position carries a salary range of USD 106,000 to 225,000 per year and requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with at least three years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders to shape the product vision and align with strategic priorities; contribute to portfolio vision and clearly communicate this direction to the squad and to other squads beyond the portfolio.
- Work together with the squad to define and pursue product level KPIs; oversee products with a balanced mix of strategic intent, scope, and complexity.
- Own the product backlog, ensuring content and prioritization are clear, with well-defined user stories.
- Establish priorities and participate in quarterly planning for the squad; coordinate with senior Product Owners to shape portfolio quarterly priorities.
- Communicate delivery expectations for new capabilities and features to stakeholders; participate in demos, retrospectives, and ceremonies across the squad.
- Collaborate daily with the agile working group to clarify requirements, remove obstacles, maintain ongoing communication, and align on product strategy.
- Align development and business goals with IT and leadership in collaboration with stakeholders and the squad; proactively remove impediments and resolve inquiries quickly.
- Monitor product health to sustain long-term viability and efficiency, balancing near-term costs with strategic outcomes.
- Analyze feasibility, cost of delay, economic considerations, and other factors related to planned or potential product changes, and report findings.
- Understand regulatory and industry constraints affecting the product; prioritize accordingly and coordinate with internal and external squads to align priorities across teams inside and outside the portfolio.
- Co-create the squad's product roadmap, incorporating stakeholder strategy input; may contribute to program or portfolio planning and guide stakeholder expectations for delivery of new capabilities.
- Communicate expected value for each iteration based on the squad's capacity, detailing any changes in value across sprint, monthly, or quarterly cycles.
- Lead customer-driven design and usability testing within the squad; participate in CDD and UT processes across the portfolio; ensure market-aware product positioning via analysis.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of Personal Lines insurance products to ensure APIs serve multi-line business needs across jurisdictions and distribution channels.
- Experience with back-end systems, APIs, microservices, reusable capabilities, and integrating a service-oriented architecture with consumers or platform products.
- Emphasis on platform thinking, delivering outcomes by understanding software products and consumer needs, with an API-first approach for scalable solutions aligned to business goals.
- Effective communication to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences about vision, plans, and impact; ability to influence stakeholders through leadership.
- Familiarity with Agile methods and IT project management, typically supported by a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 3 to 5 years of direct Agile team experience, plus about 7 years in business, technology, or consulting.
- Able to articulate complex concepts to varied audiences and educate SBU/department on business vision and the impact of change.
- Demonstrates the ability to influence a diverse stakeholder group with strong leadership.
- Capable of making rapid, well-reasoned decisions on a daily basis.
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving and leadership in guiding a team to progress solutions.
- Insurance industry experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio is preferred.
- Maintains a strong experimental mindset for innovating amid uncertainty.
