Job Description

Liberty Mutual is seeking a Product Owner for USRM’s Distribution Solutions team to support the Quoting Platform and enablement across the Win Now and Frontier workstreams. The role serves as the voice of the customer and the organization, partnering with teams to define, prioritize, and deliver platform capabilities using Agile methods.

Role Focus

As Product Owner, you will help shape product direction for the Quoting Platform and contribute to enablement across multiple workstreams. You will coordinate product vision, backlog priorities, and stakeholder expectations to support delivery aligned to organizational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create and align on product vision with strategic priorities, contribute to the portfolio vision, and communicate that vision to the squad/team and to teams outside the portfolio or functional area.
  • Work with the squad/team to develop and achieve product-level KPIs, managing product(s) with moderate strategy, scope, and complexity.
  • Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring accountability for contents and prioritization, and ensuring user stories are clear and actionable.
  • Set priorities and participate in squad/team quarterly planning, including collaboration with more senior Product Owners for portfolio quarterly planning.
  • Set expectations with stakeholders for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities, and participate in squad/team demos, retrospectives, and related ceremonies.
  • Work daily with the Agile working group to clarify business requirements, remove roadblocks, communicate frequently, and support alignment around product strategy.
  • Collaborate with IT and business leadership to align development and business goals and priorities, resolving open issues and removing impediments to execution.
  • Monitor and maintain product health to support long-term viability and efficiency, balancing long-term and short-term considerations and costs against desired outcomes.
  • Analyze and report on feasibility and cost of delay implications, including economies and other considerations related to planned or potential product changes.
  • Understand regulatory, compliance, and industry constraints and prioritize accordingly, negotiating with internal and external squads/teams to align priorities across teams within and outside the portfolio.
  • Collaboratively build the squad/team product roadmap, contribute to strategy inputs from stakeholders, and support program or portfolio-level planning as needed.
  • Communicate expected value and value changes for each iteration based on squad/team capacity.
  • Lead customer-driven design and usability testing for the squad/team, collaborating on CDD and UT across the portfolio and supporting product positioning through market and industry analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management typically gained through a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, plus a minimum of 3 to 5 years of direct experience with Agile teams and 7 years in business, technology, or consulting.
  • Ability to depict and explain complex ideas, issues, and designs to varied audiences, including educating SBU or department(s) on business vision and plan and the impact of change.
  • Ability to influence a diverse group of stakeholders with strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to make difficult and quick decisions daily.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to lead progress and solutions delivery.
  • Insurance industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant products and the portfolio preferred.
  • Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amid uncertainty.

Ideal Candidate Highlights

  • Personal Lines Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of Personal Lines insurance products to ensure APIs meet business needs for transacting multiple lines across multiple jurisdictions via multiple distribution channels.
  • Back-end experience: Experience working on back-end systems, APIs, microservices, reusable capabilities, service-oriented architecture integration with consumers, or platform products.
  • Platform mindset: Focus on delivering outcomes by understanding associated software products, consumer needs, and an API-first design approach to create effective and scalable solutions that support business objectives.
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to communicate complex concepts to varied audiences and to influence stakeholders through leadership.

Location and Compensation

Location: Plano, TX (hybrid).
Compensation: USD 106,000 - 225,000 per year.
