Liberty Mutual’s I Buy I Sell Consumers portfolio is seeking a Product Owner III to guide the digital insurance buying journey from Boston, MA on a hybrid schedule. This role centers on shaping a clear product strategy, aligning stakeholders and cross-functional teams, and delivering customer-focused improvements that generate measurable business value. The compensation for this position ranges from USD 120,000 to 225,000 per year.
Description
As a Product Owner III, you will lead a cross-functional agile team focused on creating intuitive, seamless, and engaging online insurance purchasing experiences. You will harness customer insights, behavioral data, and experimentation to uncover opportunities, reduce friction across the buy flow, and drive meaningful business outcomes. This role empowers teams to innovate, embrace prudent risk-taking, and solve real customer problems with modern technology.
This position requires two in-office days per week for candidates who reside within 50 miles of Columbus, OH; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Indianapolis, IN; or Plano, TX.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to shape a product vision aligned with strategic priorities and clearly communicate the strategy to the squad, other teams outside the portfolio, and executive leadership.
- With the squad, define and pursue product-level KPIs, managing initiatives with substantial strategy, scope, and complexity.
- Own and refine the product backlog, ensuring contents are prioritized and translate into clear, actionable user stories.
- Set priorities and contribute to quarterly planning at both the squad and portfolio levels, establishing expectations for delivering new capabilities and features.
- Participate in squad demos, retrospectives, and all other agile ceremonies to continuously improve delivery.
- Work daily with the agile working group to clarify business requirements, remove roadblocks, maintain open communication, and align around the product strategy.
- Lead IT and business leadership to synchronize development with strategic priorities, collaborating with stakeholders and squads to remove obstacles to execution.
- Monitor product health, design enhanced monitoring, and assess the product’s impact on other ecosystem components.
- Analyze feasibility and cost of delay, economic implications, and other factors related to planned or potential changes.
- Drive stakeholder alignment to understand how regulatory, compliance, and industry constraints affect other products in the portfolio, negotiating priorities across squads as needed.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of Agile methodologies, typically demonstrated by a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (business, computer science, humanities, etc.) and about 7 years in business, technology, or consulting, with 5–7 years of direct experience with agile teams; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to set clear product priorities and understand how business value is realized.
- Proven ability to build and influence stakeholder relationships across multiple organizational boundaries.
- Experience guiding diverse audiences through complex ideas, issues, and designs, including census-building with varied stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience with Agile practices and expectations; comfortable making decisions amid uncertainty.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of the insurance industry and related products is preferred; a strong experimental mindset to drive innovation under uncertainty.
