Senior Software Engineer - Agile Product Owner

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer and Agile Product Owner to support onsite product delivery in Sterling, Virginia. This role will help design and develop integrated simulation and training solutions while taking ownership of Agile execution, backlog refinement, and alignment to PI objectives.

Role Overview

In this position, you will serve as the Agile Product Owner for a software engineering team, focusing on refining and maintaining the team backlog and validating delivery against planned outcomes. The work involves integrating simulation and training capabilities and incorporating non-functional requirements such as security, performance, and compliance into actionable user stories.

Responsibilities

• Own and refine the team backlog, writing actionable user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
• Partner with Product Management to break down features and align team delivery with PI objectives.
• Provide daily clarification to the team, make scope decisions, and validate completed work.
• Ensure non-functional requirements including security, performance, and compliance are incorporated into stories.
• Participate in PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt to support continuous improvement.
• Use flow metrics and team performance data to improve predictability and value delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting CI/CD Pipelines.
• Experience with tools including GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Coverity, Nexus, Artifactory, and Splunk.
• Experience with automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, etc.
• Experience with server-side scripting languages including Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
• Experience with virtual environments such as VMware, Proxmox, etc.
• Experience with continuous integration for real-time testing and diagnostics within a virtualized environment.
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance required prior to start date.
• Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
• Agile Product Owner experience with a hands-on software engineering background and broad proficiency across modern development languages and tools.
• Ability to guide Agile teams, manage team-level backlogs, and translate business needs into clear technical requirements.
• U.S. citizenship required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years in software/product/technology roles, including 3+ years as a Product Owner in Agile environments.
• Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum practices and backlog management.
• Excellent communication skills to connect business goals with technical delivery.
• Experience in application development and integration within one or more IaaS/PaaS environments (Red Hat OpenShift, VMware, OpenStack).
• Experience refactoring legacy systems for cloud or virtual environments.
• SAFe POPM certification.

Compensation

USD 95,500 - 181,700 per year

Location and Work Model

Onsite role based in Sterling, VA, United States of America (US-VA-STERLING-291 ~ 22640 Davis Dr ~ DAVIS). Onsite employees work primarily onsite, including production and maintenance employees essential to product development.
