Digital Product Owner
Job Description
The Digital Product Owner maximizes the impact delivered by one or more agile product teams by converting product strategy into a clearly defined, continuously refined backlog. This role works daily with cross-functional partners to deliver digital capabilities that are usable, reliable, secure, and compliant, while validating results against acceptance criteria.
Location and Work Model
Minneapolis, MN (onsite)
Compensation
$95,000 - $125,000 USD per year
Core Responsibilities
- Own, order, and continuously refine the team backlog to maximize value and align to product outcomes, roadmap priorities, quality needs, technical sustainability, and operational commitments.
- Translate product goals, user needs, business rules, regulatory needs, and technical constraints into backlog items, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting context.
- Ensure backlog items are understood, sliced, sequenced, and delivery-ready; collaborate with the team rather than author requirements independently.
- Make timely day-to-day decisions on priority, scope, and clarification within established product direction and decision rights.
- Maintain transparent prioritization across new capabilities, defects, technical debt, cybersecurity, quality, compliance, maintenance, and operational work.
- Accept or reject completed work against agreed acceptance criteria and confirm that delivered capabilities support the intended outcome.
- Provide cross-functional teams with product context, sprint or iteration goals, priorities, and rapid clarification during delivery.
- Participate in planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and related activities; partner with the Scrum Master or delivery lead to support flow and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, testing, systems, architecture, data, and quality partners to identify dependencies, reduce ambiguity, and mitigate delivery risk.
- Protect team focus by managing intake, triaging urgent requests and defects, and making trade-offs visible to the Product Manager and stakeholders.
- Coordinate priorities and dependencies across teams while maintaining one transparent source of truth for committed and upcoming work.
- Support release planning, readiness, validation, deployment, and post-release monitoring.
- Represent user and customer needs at the team level to keep work aligned to the problem, expected outcome, and product strategy.
- Partner with the Product Manager and design or research partners in discovery, solution validation, and translating learning into delivery-ready work.
- Gather feedback from users, stakeholders, support channels, analytics, and product operations to guide backlog decisions and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate completed capabilities and communicate delivered value, open decisions, risks, and next steps.
- Embed applicable quality, regulatory, privacy, cybersecurity, accessibility, clinical, safety, and data requirements into backlog items and acceptance criteria.
- Maintain traceability and support product development records, reviews, approvals, and change controls within the quality management system.
- Partner with team members to ensure nonfunctional requirements are considered, including reliability, performance, observability, security, supportability, and maintainability.
- Support defect triage and post-market improvements as assigned.
- Use delivery and product data to identify bottlenecks, quality trends, and opportunities to improve team flow and delivered value.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in product ownership, business analysis, software delivery, engineering, design, quality, program management, or a related digital product role.

- Experience working as an embedded partner to cross-functional agile software teams, including internal or external delivery partners.
- Ability to translate user, business, technical, and compliance needs into actionable team-level work.
- Sound judgment for timely decisions, including knowing when to involve the Product Manager or other decision makers.
