Product Owner
Job Description
RouteOne is hiring a Product Owner for a remote role. In this position, you’ll help drive product outcomes by aligning stakeholders, priorities, and execution within a Scrum framework. The Product Owner role is central to maximizing development team output while keeping the product’s vision and focus clear from planning through launch and ongoing enhancements.
What you’ll do
- Own the product lifecycle from planning through development, launch, and ongoing enhancements.
- Support product definition, development, and delivery using the RouteOne systems lifecycle process.
- Drive release planning and ensure the team is working on priority items that reflect stakeholder needs.
- Maintain steady communication with product stakeholders through regular updates.
- Identify dealer and finance source problems through market research, including visiting dealer and finance source customers.
- Translate what you learn into clear, detailed problem statements and partner with teams to define solutions.
- Create and maintain the product backlog by writing detailed requirements and user stories.
- Coordinate backlog refinement with development team(s) to keep delivery aligned with validated and known market needs.
- Work with customers when custom functionality is required to deliver enhancements to their specifications.
- Partner with a user experience designer to define how users interact with the product(s).
- Ground decisions in an understanding of the competitive landscape and persona expectations (users and buyers).
- Ensure acceptance criteria are met and coordinate/facilitate regular product updates.
- Provide input into the long-term product roadmap.
- Coordinate with Legal and Security to ensure legal- and security-specific requirements are identified and addressed.
- Support dealer and finance source sales efforts when needed for assigned projects, including creation of sales materials and delivery of presentations.
- Act as a subject-matter expert for functional product area(s) and maintain safety, security, and privacy standards across responsibilities.
What you bring
- Strong knowledge of automotive financing dealer and finance source processes.
- Technology knowledge, specifically software.
- Experience with agile software implementation methodologies, specifically Scrum.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.
- Experience with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms.
- Familiarity with software mockup and prototyping tools such as Figma or Balsamiq.
- Familiarity with issue tracking tools such as JIRA.
- Ability to think critically, solve problems, and stay solution-focused.
- Team collaboration skills, strong time management, and leadership/facilitation experience in managing projects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- High flexibility and adaptability, including conflict management capability.
- Self-motivated, self-directed, and able to communicate effectively across internal and external organizations.
- 3+ years of experience as a software product owner.
- Computer Science or Engineering degree or work experience is a plus.
- Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Product Owner certification is a plus.
- Sales and marketing experience focused on new product development is a plus; Pragmatic Marketing certification is also a plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites in North America (10%).
