Job Description

As an Information Technology Product Owner, you will partner with business stakeholders and Agile Scrum teams to shape insurance technology solutions that support underwriting, claims, policy administration, billing, and agency operations for Wisconsin. The role is hybrid in Madison, WI 53717, with periodic on-site presence based on business needs, and compensation in the range of $95,000 to $115,000 yearly.
What you’ll do
- Act as Product Owner for one or more Agile Scrum teams, maximizing product value through effective backlog management and prioritization.
- Own and maintain the Product Backlog, keeping work transparent, prioritized, and aligned with business goals.
- Define and communicate Product Goals and collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into user stories, features, and acceptance criteria.
- Prioritize work based on business value, customer impact, regulatory requirements, risk, and dependencies.
- Participate in Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives, partnering with the Scrum Master and development team to support successful delivery.
- Review and accept completed work to ensure solutions meet business needs and quality expectations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the Scrum team, facilitating communication, trade-off decisions, and product direction.
- Collaborate with business and technology partners to support modernization initiatives and the long-term evolution of insurance systems and platforms.
- Monitor product performance and business outcomes, using data and metrics to inform future priorities and continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Systems Analyst, or related technology delivery role.
- Experience serving as a Product Owner, including performing Product Owner responsibilities, in an Agile Scrum environment.
- Property & Casualty insurance experience supporting insurance technology platforms, including exposure to policy administration, underwriting, claims, billing, rating, or agency systems.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize Product Backlogs to deliver measurable business value.
- Experience translating business requirements into user stories, features, and acceptance criteria.
- Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements and their impact on technology delivery and prioritization.
- Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills across business and technical audiences.
- Experience using data and performance metrics to support product decisions and prioritization.
Preferred qualifications
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), or similar Agile certification.
- Experience supporting enterprise modernization, digital transformation, or large-scale system initiatives.
- Familiarity with scaling Agile frameworks and portfolio-level planning.
- Knowledge of business analysis practices, including requirements elicitation, backlog refinement, and traceability.
- Familiarity with IT service management practices, including release, change, and incident management.
- Experience with project management methodologies, SDLC practices, and governance processes.
- Experience working with AI-enabled productivity and collaboration tools.
