Based onsite in Plano, TX, Markel Service Inc. seeks a Senior Product Owner to lead the ERMS legacy systems. This role centers on owning the backlog, engaging stakeholders, applying agile practices, and delivering scalable IT solutions that align with roadmaps and regulatory standards. Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders across upstream and downstream systems to understand business priorities and how they rely on legacy applications and workflows
- Own strategic stakeholder engagement for assigned areas, showing deep knowledge of both business processes and system constraints
- Adopt and implement agile best practices to maintain and enhance legacy systems, balancing stability with incremental improvements
- Own backlog prioritization and release planning for the product
- Document stories and epics that capture business needs
- Refine and maintain product backlogs, prioritize user stories, and define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and product requirements
- Collaborate with architects to translate business strategies into practical solutions within existing system limitations while identifying opportunities for efficiencies
- Drive delivery of scalable solutions aligned with strategic IT roadmaps and portfolio budgets
- Collaborate across Operations to ensure legacy systems continue to support functions without disruption
- Support User Acceptance Testing, regression testing, and training initiatives for updates involving legacy systems
- Help drive technology and process transformation for US and Bermuda
- Measure product performance and value delivery through KPIs and metrics tied to business outcomes
- Ensure prioritization aligns with IT investment roadmaps and budget goals
- Partner with Product Managers, Architects, and Enterprise teams to maintain portfolio integrity
- Champion customer-centric outcomes by prioritizing features that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency
- Ensure product changes adhere to regulatory and compliance standards
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry best practices to inform product strategy
Requirements
- 5+ years of insurance experience is a plus
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
- Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in technology or operations
- Ability to manage multiple and multi-faceted stakeholders
- Solution-oriented, creative thinker
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and product management practices
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in Jira and Confluence for backlog management and documentation
- Ability to translate strategic goals into actionable business requirements
- Highly ethical, professional, and trustworthy with a commitment to compliance and integrity
- Flexible, adaptable, and resilient in a dynamic environment
- Financial and business acumen to align product decisions with organizational goals
- Ability to track and report on continuous improvement metrics and modernization impact

Compensation
The Sr. Product Owner base salary ranges from $116,080 to $159,610 per year, with a 25% incentive. The broader market shows a Product Owner range of $92,880 to $127,710 with a 15% incentive, while this Sr. level reflects higher compensation aligned with scope and responsibilities.
