Job Description

General Dynamics Mission Systems offers an on site SubC5I Subject Matter Expert Product Owner role in the Chesapeake, VA area with opportunities to engage Newport News, VA as needed. This role centers on customer interface, requirements gathering, and guiding the program's technical direction, including AI enabled planning across CWITT and CVN shipyard programs. A current DoD security clearance is required, and the position requires on site presence at the Chesapeake area and Newport News locations, with travel to related sites.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary customer interface, gathering and clarifying requirements while providing context on how and why the customer uses the product.
  • Act as the point of contact for customer outreach across the program.
  • Provide on the ground insight for requirements gathering and identify opportunities for program growth.
  • Leverage deep knowledge of the CWITT and CVN shipyard test programs, including cadence, stakeholders, and key roles such as Test Directors, JTG Chair, Lead Test Director, and IPT members.
  • Understand and articulate the rationale behind the test program, focusing on the why as well as the what.
  • Support business development efforts with warfare centers and shipyards through established stakeholder relationships.
  • Process customer requests and define scope prior to implementation by the development team.
  • Evaluate in sprint progress of development teams to ensure alignment with requirements and schedule.
  • Provide routine status updates to fellow leads and customers.
  • Contribute to and guide the technical direction of the program.
  • Apply experience with AI tooling and workflows to support program planning.
  • Develop and refine prompts and AI configuration files.
  • Assist with AI driven planning tasks across the program.
  • Bridge technical depth with program knowledge to deliver well informed product decisions.
  • Maintain a local presence in the Chesapeake, VA area and be willing to provide on site presence at St. Julien's Creek and Newport News offices.
  • Willing to travel between program sites as needed, including Electric Boat and Manassas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with naval combat systems, shipyard test programs CWITT or CVN, or equivalent DoD programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface directly with government or customer stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies and product ownership.
  • Active DoD security clearance required.

Location

Chesapeake, VA (primary) | Newport News, VA | Travel required to Electric Boat and Manassas, VA sites.
