Role Summary
The Senior Principal Product Manager is responsible for a complete video product strategy and delivery lifecycle across FOX News digital properties. The scope includes live streaming, VOD, vertical video, and the video player technology and delivery pipeline. The role collaborates with editorial leadership and oversees live breaking-news readiness.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end video product strategy for FOX News digital, including live streaming, VOD, vertical video, and the destinations and surfaces that serve video audiences across web and mobile
- Define and maintain a roadmap shaped by audience needs, editorial priorities, technical constraints, and business objectives, aligned with the broader content and engagement roadmap
- Identify opportunities to differentiate the FOX News digital video experience and progress toward a best-in-class product standard for a live news environment
- Coordinate with adjacent PMs to manage dependencies tied to video, particularly around tentpole events, content discovery surfaces, and personalization
- Act as the product authority on video player technology, including playback behavior, player SDK capabilities and constraints, adaptive bitrate streaming, and performance metrics defining video quality
- Maintain deep fluency in content delivery workflows and pipelines feeding the player: encoding and transcoding, packaging, CDN delivery, metadata management, and video asset workflows
- Partner with engineering teams for player development and delivery infrastructure by writing requirements, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and making product decisions that reflect pipeline realities
- Define video performance standards across startup time, buffering rate, quality adaptation, and error handling; partner with engineering to instrument, monitor, and continuously improve
- Identify pipeline gaps or constraints limiting the product experience and escalate with clear requirements and business impact framing
- Own the product readiness standard for live video during breaking news and major events, including load testing, failover planning, and real-time monitoring protocols
- Partner with the Tentpoles to ensure video readiness and differentiation during FNM highest-traffic moments
- Define the live news streaming product experience across all access states, including authenticated, unauthenticated, metered, and fully open, balancing business and audience goals
- Maintain a strong working relationship with editorial video leadership to ensure product decisions align with content strategy priorities and provide editorial teams the surfaces needed to deliver video effectively
- Translate editorial video priorities into product requirements, bridging editorial publishing goals with scalable product delivery capabilities
- Manage dotted-line stakeholder relationships with professionalism and clarity, preserving alignment without letting content strategy dictate product architecture decisions
- Write clear, detailed PRDs and technical requirements that enable engineering teams to build with confidence
- Own pod-level sprint ceremonies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and sprint reviews
- Drive delivery across multiple workstreams in parallel without dedicated delivery support
- Define and own a video performance dashboard covering player metrics, engagement depth, video start rate, completion rate, and audience retention
- Partner with data and analytics teams to instrument the video experience end-to-end, from content ingestion through playback completion
- Use performance data to identify high-leverage improvements and communicate impact to senior leadership clearly
- Use AI agents as a core part of daily product workflows, including research, synthesis, PRD drafting, user-story creation, and sprint preparation
Requirements
- 10+ years of product management experience, including meaningful ownership of video product surfaces at scale
- Deep technical fluency in video player technology, including player behavior, SDK capabilities and constraints, and how adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM, and playback error handling affect user experience
- Hands-on familiarity with content delivery pipelines, including encoding and transcoding workflows, CDN delivery, HLS/DASH packaging, and metadata management, with awareness of how pipeline architecture impacts product possibilities
- Proven experience owning live streaming product experiences, including shipping through breaking news or live event moments and maintaining live stability under peak load
- Ability to write product requirements that engineering teams can act on directly, with technical specificity that removes ambiguity and keeps experience goals audience-focused
- Strong stakeholder management skills with editorial and executive partners, while maintaining product authority over architecture and roadmap decisions
- Excellent written and verbal communication for presenting video strategy and performance to senior leadership
- Ability to operate independently as a senior individual contributor across multiple workstreams without close supervision
