Principal Product Owner
Job Description
PG&E’s Enterprise Data department works to ensure trusted data empowers people across the enterprise to deliver on the company’s purpose. In this hybrid role based in Oakland, you will serve as the connective tissue across the enterprise data ecosystem, helping translate priorities into enterprise capabilities and guiding investments toward measurable business value.
You will partner with business leaders and data, technology, and program teams to turn complex, high-stakes problems into clear priorities. The work is outcome-focused: value is the destination, not data for its own sake.
What you’ll do
- Start with outcomes and distinguish what stakeholders ask for from what they actually need.
- Connect enterprise priorities, investments, and capabilities to measurable business value.
- Establish visibility into whether value is being realized over time.
- Recommend improving, expanding, consolidating, or retiring investments based on evidence.
- Act as the connective tissue between business leaders, data teams, technology teams, and major programs.
- Link business challenges to the needed capabilities across data, analytics, governance, architecture, and technology platforms.
- Surface dependencies, opportunities, and relationships that may not be immediately obvious.
- Find opportunities to leverage existing investments before creating new ones.
- Bring stakeholders together around outcomes that no single organization can achieve alone.
- Translate business priorities into enterprise capabilities and help shape integrated roadmaps across products, teams, platforms, and programs.
- Identify gaps, overlaps, dependencies, and investment opportunities across the portfolio.
- Support leadership prioritization and investment decisions with clear reasoning and insight.
- Ensure capabilities evolve in step with business outcomes and strategic objectives.
- Help leaders connect trusted data, operational performance, risk management, analytics, and value outcomes.
- Influence adoption of data ownership, stewardship, quality, and governance practices.
- Promote enterprise solutions over local optimization.
- Build understanding of why trusted data matters and help cultivate a culture where data is treated as a strategic enterprise asset.
- Listen first, challenge assumptions empathetically, and influence decisions through credibility, collaboration, and insight.
- Coach and mentor others based on development needs.
- Lead complex or major projects with high corporate or functional priority, serving as a primary liaison across departments, stakeholders, the business community, and lines of business.
- Develop implementation plans and establish teams to introduce new technology.
- Evaluate new products and equipment and stay current on what the market offers.
- Provide product feedback and customer insight, partnering with the products organization to deliver feedback on existing products and introduce potential products for future programs.
- Analyze work plans and schedules to reallocate resources or reprioritize program work.
- Develop new highly complex products.
What you bring
- 7 years of job-related experience
- High School or GED (General Educational Development) diploma
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience as Product Owner in an Agile environment, with 5 years in that capacity
- Agile Certification
Compensation and incentives
- The role has a full salary/pay range provided by PG&E.
- Bay Area minimum: $151,000; midpoint: $204,000; maximum: $257,000.
- Eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Location and work style
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and at the Oakland Corporate Office approximately 1 to 2 days per week, or more based on business needs.
