Job Description

D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. is seeking a Product Operations Associate to support the Human Capital Product Management team. The role focuses on operational support for recruiting and employee-facing technology platforms, including system configuration, access administration, data quality work, and selected small-scale product initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with product managers and developers to troubleshoot user issues, coordinate system changes, and deliver operational support.
  • Administer permissions and manage user access across interconnected human capital systems, applying sound judgment to ensure appropriate configurations.
  • Own small-scale product management projects, including scoping, defining requirements, conducting testing, and supporting feature rollouts with guidance from senior team members.
  • Support system configuration activities, contribute to larger roadmap efforts, and collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs and recommend solutions.
  • Perform data cleanups and audits to maintain high data quality standards and support scalable system design.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of the proprietary systems and third-party products that compose the human capital systems landscape.

Day-to-Day Scope

  • Coordinate with product managers and developers to resolve user issues and align on system updates.
  • Maintain correct permissions and user access across human capital platforms.
  • Progress small-scale product work from requirements and testing through rollout.
  • Participate in system configuration and assist with roadmap initiatives by engaging stakeholders on user needs.
  • Carry out data audits and cleanups to ensure reliable data for operational and product use.
  • Build and maintain working knowledge of internal and external products within the human capital ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Professional experience is preferred but not required, including internships.
  • Analytical skills to think critically about system configurations and troubleshoot user requests.
  • Adaptability and learning agility when working with unfamiliar systems and processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to track work to completion.
  • Proactive approach, willingness to drive projects forward independently, and genuine interest in both operational and product management work.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Location: New York, NY (onsite)
  • Expected annual base salary: USD 75,000 to 90,000
  • Variable compensation: year-end bonus
