Product Owner I

Vermont Mutual offers a hybrid Product Owner role based in Montpelier, VT, with $70,000 to $85,000 per year and incentive compensation. You will play a central part in shaping products and capabilities by connecting business vision, user experience, and technology to support delivery of meaningful customer outcomes.

What you’ll do

• Own end-to-end product innovation and launch, from concept through go-live.
• Collaborate with Portfolio Managers, SMEs, and customers to co-develop a roadmap and deliver products and features in a fast-paced environment.
• Work across functions with analytics, design and user experience, engineering, and user enablement.
• In an Agile setting, review business needs, refine priorities, define milestones and deliverables, and identify opportunities and risks.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and customers to inform product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization.
• Contribute to and execute the product roadmap.
• Partner with user-focused SMEs to define end-user experience, along with support and monitoring for customers.
• Translate roadmap features into clear product requirements, including features, user stories, and acceptance test criteria.
• Prioritize and maintain the team increment and sprint backlog for assigned products, balancing stakeholder requirements.
• Lead the product functional design process using knowledge of users and technology.
• Apply business analysis, product management, and Agile industry best practices to deliver high-quality outcomes and lead by example.
• Support the scrum/product development team in meeting each sprint’s objectives.
• Define and execute go-live plans, ensuring product management, marketing, and business units/customers have what they need to succeed.
• Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, business, or another appropriate discipline, plus 3 or more years of industry, IT, or software project management and supervisory experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• Excellent communication skills to engage, influence, and inspire partners and stakeholders.
• Advanced knowledge of products, operating processes, the Insurance industry, and systems across the business.
• A balance of technical knowledge and business acumen.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• High motivation and ability to operate as a self-starter.
• Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and handle business or personnel situations effectively.
• Ability to represent the company and work effectively with a variety of external organizations/individuals and internal personnel, including management.

Hybrid work location

• Hybrid position based in the Montpelier, VT office, requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite.

Compensation and eligibility

The salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. This role includes incentive compensation and is benefits eligible. Individual salary is determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location.

Supervision

• Supervision exercised: Provide project-related supervision of Business Analysts and Agile team members.
• Supervision received: General supervision from the Business Solutions Manager.

Working conditions

This is a predominantly sedentary office role with frequent keyboarding and computer work. Physical demands are minimal and typical for similar positions in comparable organizations.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in IT, business, or other appropriate discipline.
