Senior Product Owner

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is looking for a Senior Product Owner to help translate customer needs and business priorities into a clear, execution-ready product backlog. In this role, you will guide sprint planning and team delivery across complex, high-impact, and/or multiple products, with minimal oversight while working closely with delivery teams and stakeholders.

As part of the Hybrid Flex model from Durham, NC, you will balance focused work with intentional in-person collaboration. The Senior Product Owner role also includes coaching support for other staff and maintaining strong product-area knowledge to keep planning grounded in real business outcomes.

What you’ll do

• Partner with internal team members to ensure customer desires and business priorities are effectively communicated and reflected in the product backlog.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and delivery teams to define user stories and to own the team and sprint backlog.
• Decompose features into stories or smaller work items so the team can execute and deliver.
• Use Product Manager and stakeholder input to map the product vision to user stories.
• Serve as a liaison between business and delivery teams, representing expectations across interested stakeholder segments.
• Develop and maintain business knowledge for the assigned spoke or business area.
• Define user stories and support team members as they write user stories.
• Mentor and coach other staff.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree (where required)
• 5+ years of experience in a related field
• In lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience in a related field

Hybrid work details

• Hybrid Flex: work in the office at least two days per week for collaboration and connection.
• Remote Flex: work virtually, with a few in-office visits each year for meaningful moments.
• Your specific flex model depends on the nature of the work and distance from Blue Cross NC headquarters in Durham.

Compensation

• Salary range: USD 107,901 - 172,642 per year
• The base salary is part of a Total Rewards package including an Annual Incentive Bonus (based on annual corporate goal achievement and individual performance), 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs.
