Technical Product Manager

Y&L Consulting is working with a client in Austin, TX on an in-person contract engagement for a Technical Product Manager focused on data management product and project development. The work calls for strong software development fundamentals and proven Agile or Scrum experience, alongside deep expertise in data management, governance, and analytics to shape the roadmap and support delivery.

Role overview

This position centers on translating technical requirements into actionable product work, managing a product backlog, and ensuring data management capabilities are prioritized for the greatest value. You will collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, define and communicate product strategy for data management solutions, and use data analysis to inform product decisions.

Responsibilities

• Translate technical requirements into user stories and manage a product backlog.
• Prioritize and manage the backlog so the development team delivers the most valuable features.
• Ensure data management features and enhancements are properly prioritized.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Engage stakeholders to identify and address data management needs.
• Contribute to the overall product vision.
• Define and communicate the product strategy for data management solutions.
• Provide clear and concise technical communication to non-technical audiences, and clearly communicate business needs to technical teams.
• Convey the importance of data management solutions to multiple stakeholder groups.
• Analyze data to support and guide product decisions.

Requirements

• Knowledge of SDLC, programming languages, software architecture, and relevant technologies.
• Experience with data management systems and data-related technologies.
• Proficiency in Scrum or other Agile frameworks.
• Ability to translate technical requirements into user stories and manage a product backlog.
• Ability to understand how technical components interact and identify potential technical challenges.
• Knowledge of database management systems, data warehousing, and data integration techniques.
• Aptitude for troubleshooting technical issues and finding effective solutions.
• Ability to address data-related topics such as data quality, data governance, and data security.
• Ability to analyze data to inform product decisions.
• Proficiency in data analytics tools and techniques.
• Understanding of security principles and best practices.
• Experience with data security protocols and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
• Understanding of the market in which the product operates and user needs.
• Knowledge of trends and advancements in data management practices and technologies.

Minimum experience and qualifications

• 7 years managing data product or project development, product management, or as a technical product or project leader.
• 7 years extensive experience in data management, data governance, and data analytics.
• 5 years business analysis skills documenting business requirements and translating them into actionable projects.
• 5 years proficiency in business intelligence and data management, including best practices and industry trends in machine learning.
• 5 years managing budgets and processes for running enterprise-level programs.

Work location and pay

• Location: Austin, TX (in person / onsite)
• Job type: Contract
• Pay: $80.00 to $85.00 per hour
