This remote role works with lean teams and high accountability, combining hands-on research, interface design, and collaboration across product and engineering.

You will contribute to mission-driven work in federal and defense environments, balancing user-centered thinking with constraints related to policy requirements and security realities. The position also includes ongoing professional development as you expand your UX research and design practice.

What you’ll do

  • Assist with user research activities including user interviews, surveys, quantitative analysis, and usability testing.
  • Analyze user data and help develop personas, journey maps, and other user-centered artifacts.
  • Support the creation of research reports and presentations.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes under the guidance of senior designers.
  • Participate in design reviews and critiques.
  • Learn and apply UX best practices to design solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate design decisions and rationale clearly and concisely.
  • Actively seek opportunities to learn and grow UX skills.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in UX research and design.

Required experience and background

  • 0-4 years of practical experience in the UX field.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Basic knowledge of qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, with strong file setup hygiene and solid prototyping skills.
  • Excellent communication (especially written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, think critically about your own work, and adapt to new challenges.
  • Portfolio demonstrating hands-on experience applying UX principles.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) preferred.

Security clearance

  • Secret Required (or willingness to apply for Secret).

Location and work model

  • Remote; the company is also growing presence in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, and Washington DC areas.
  • Candidates in those hubs will have opportunities to engage with local team members.

Work environment

  • Bravo17 is a growing federal digital services firm operating with high accountability, lean teams, and a strong sense of ownership.
  • The role requires comfort with ambiguity, initiative, and a bias toward action.

Preferred profile (how you work)

  • Comfort operating without excessive structure and creating clarity where it doesn’t exist.
  • Thrives where standards are high, teams are small, and impact is visible.
  • Collaborative and generous with expertise while taking ownership without waiting to be asked.
  • Motivated by mission-driven work and able to balance user-centered design with regulatory constraints, policy requirements, and security realities.
  • Comfort leading research and design with minimal oversight.
  • Communicates confidently with senior federal stakeholders and can defend design decisions with data and rationale.
  • Adaptable when priorities shift, with a strong focus on quality and usability even in complex systems.
  • Sees ambiguity as an opportunity, not a blocker.
  • Interested in building something new rather than only contributing to something already built.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Health and welfare benefits
  • Flexible ways of working
  • Generous time off policies including vacation/PTO
  • Sick leave
  • Parental leave
