Digital Product Owner - Unified Catalog
Job Description
As part of Caterpillar’s Rental and Used team, the Digital Product Owner - Unified Catalog is accountable for the strategy, roadmap, and execution behind the Unified Catalog platform. The work centers on how product information is managed through PIM systems to create a consistent, scalable foundation for digital product experiences.
You will help align catalog initiatives with enterprise digital direction and business goals, while driving the data models, governance, integrations, and delivery approaches needed to meet customer expectations across platforms and regions.
What you’ll do
- Define and drive the product vision and roadmap for Unified Catalog and PIM capabilities
- Align catalog initiatives with Caterpillar’s enterprise digital strategy, content ecosystem (CMS), and Rental & Used business objectives
- Identify opportunities to improve product data quality, scalability, and reuse across platforms
- Lead product onboarding and enrichment activities
- Own attribute definition and standardization, including product classification and taxonomy
- Manage data governance and lifecycle management to support consistent catalog operations
- Establish and maintain consistent product data models across Rental and Used equipment catalogs
- Ensure alignment between PIM, CMS, CPC, and downstream consumer systems
- Define product hierarchies including categories, families, and variants
- Set attribute frameworks for specifications, features, and metadata
- Ensure data models support PLP/PDP experiences, as well as search, filtering, and navigation
- Support localization and multi-region requirements, including multi-region and multi-language catalog capabilities
- Ensure accurate and timely data synchronization across platforms, including data mapping and attribute alignment
- Own and prioritize the Unified Catalog / PIM product backlog
- Translate business requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, and data requirements
- Partner with engineering teams to deliver scalable and reliable catalog capabilities
- Ensure releases align with business priorities and deliver measurable value
- Partner with analytics teams to enable reporting and visibility into catalog performance and gaps
- Monitor and improve data accuracy, consistency, and coverage across catalogs, including data updates and approvals
- Manage attribute and taxonomy changes, and drive data onboarding efficiency to support supplier/dealer inputs
- Support time-to-market for new products and updates
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Information Systems, or related field
- Proven experience in digital product management or product ownership
- Experience working with PIM systems or structured product data platforms
- Product data modeling and taxonomy expertise
- Data governance and lifecycle management experience
- Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, content (CMS), and business teams
- Experience managing cross-platform dependencies and integrations
- Excellent communication skills, including translating complex data concepts into actionable deliverables
- Experience with PIM platforms such as Akeneo, inRiver, or similar enterprise systems
- Understanding of CMS (AEM) integration with PIM for content and product experiences
- Familiarity with CPC, syndication layers, and product data distribution models
- Experience supporting PLP/PDP, search, and filtering experiences
- Knowledge of SEO and how product data impacts discoverability
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments (CSPO, SAFe PO/PM preferred)
- Exposure to analytics tools and data quality reporting frameworks
- Knowledge of business analysis tasks, techniques, and tools to identify business needs and recommend value-driven solutions
- Knowledge of decision-making processes and tools to analyze situations and reach productive decisions
- Knowledge of strategies and practices for resolving software problems in installed software products
- Knowledge of business aspects and operations of a software product, including install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision
- Exposure to UAT activities, tasks, tools, and techniques to design, implement, and evaluate acceptance tests for end-users
