Product Manager
Job Description
The Product Manager is accountable for the vision, strategy, and ongoing viability of a product line. This role collaborates with Sales and Marketing to shape go-to-market plans and maximize customer value, acting as the product subject matter expert, driving the backlog and releases. Travel up to 25% is required. Hybrid work arrangements are available for candidates based in Gilbertsville, PA; otherwise, the position is remote.
Responsibilities
- Assess product opportunities and determine the scope of what to build, including core features.
- Define the future direction of the product, set business goals, and establish metrics aligned with commitments.
- Specify new features, create user stories and acceptance criteria, define KPIs, set OKRs, own and prioritize the backlog, and triage defects to deliver, launch, and measure each release.
- Collaborate across teams to produce product requirements, use cases, specifications, wireframes, and UI mocks.
- Analyze competitive products and value to identify product-market fit and outline feature plans and scenarios.
- Coordinate with the Program Management team to ensure milestones are met, including sprint reviews, sprint planning, and feature reviews.
- Specify market requirements for current and future products through market research and ongoing visits to customers and prospects.
- Validate target markets through customer interviews and market research activities.
- Translate customer feedback and market trends into clearly defined requirements for consideration processes.
- Work with Marketing as needed to support market plans and information requests for marketing programs.
- Conduct ongoing analysis and recommend actions to maintain marketability and profitability of the product line.
- Provide input to marketing to help generate high quality sales aids such as product guides, press releases, and web content.
- Assist the Business Solutions Department with product related inquiries to meet customer needs now and in the future.
- Attend trade shows and User Group Meetings to represent the product and gather feedback.
- Complete tasks in alignment with Gateway’s Core Values and standards.
- Maintain and expand knowledge through educational opportunities, publications, and professional networks.
- Communicate clearly and promptly, including voicemail and email.
- Promote and uphold the company’s values, mission, and vision in all activities.
- Read, understand, and comply with the Employee Handbook; follow defined policies, processes, and procedures.
- Perform other tasks as required by management.
Requirements
- BS degree in computer science, business management, or equivalent.
- 6+ years of experience in software product management or equivalent.
- A track record of leading large, mission-critical projects, cross-company coordination and communication, and building large-scale applications and services.
- Ability to converse fluently with engineers about technology as well as with executives and customers about business needs and objectives.
- Keeping up to date with new technology and understanding its impact on the product.
- Knowledge of security and data protection regulations and best practices (PII, GDPR and other regulations).
- Expertise in the industry served by the product.
- Self-managed proactive work style and the ability to work independently within a team.
- Understanding of the need to meet stringent deadlines and a can-do attitude with minimal guidance.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with excellent communication skills across the organization.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to approach issues creatively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel 25% domestically and internationally; some weekends may be required.
- Willingness to work additional hours beyond scheduled times as requested by management.
- Solid negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Experience training software applications.
- Prior industry experience, specifically as a technology solution provider.
Physical Demands
- Ability to hear, see, and speak adequately (with or without accommodations) to perform essential functions.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements including walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods to carry out essential duties.
- Ability to work in indoor environmental conditions.
