Technical Product Manager, Data & Analytics Platform
Job Description
Mariana Minerals is seeking a Technical Product Manager to serve as the single product owner for its data engineering family, spanning the data platform, analytics, data science, and AI and agentic workflows. The work requires turning ambiguity across disciplines into clear direction, scoped execution, and durable adoption as prototypes mature into supported software.
This role is hybrid in San Francisco, CA and supports a mission where product decisions must balance technical rigor with real operational needs. Compensation for the position is USD 115,000 - 208,000 per year, with 4+ years of relevant experience required.
What you’ll own
- Engage internal teams continuously, including operators, machine learning engineers, software developers, analysts, and data users, translating their needs into roadmap priorities.
- Own the roadmap for data platform, analytics, and data science tooling, including what gets built next, for whom, and why.
- Produce product specifications, KPIs, and success metrics that convert ambiguous requests into shippable scope.
- Lead prioritization and stakeholder alignment so engineers can stay focused on deep technical work.
- Make build-vs-buy decisions for BI and analytics, prioritizing tooling that enables stakeholders to answer their own questions without adding headcount.
- Define where agents fit relative to conventional software and drive AI and agentic workflows from demo stage to adopted tools.
- Decide which new data streams to integrate, when to integrate them, and what data standards should apply as new sensors and sources come online.
- Set expectations for what “supported” and “correct” mean as tools move from scripts and spreadsheets into supported software, including being explicit about what won’t be migrated.
Experience and fit
- 4–8+ years in technical product management, data platform, or analytics product roles, or equivalent experience leading cross-disciplinary technical programs.
- Comfort acting as the only PM in a highly technical room, knowing when to drive decisions, when to defer to engineers, and how to build credibility without being the most technical person.
- Depth in data infrastructure and analytics sufficient to earn credibility with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts, and to know when a technical answer is adequate.
- Working fluency with the current LLM and foundation-model landscape, including where agentic approaches genuinely fit versus conventional software.
- Track record structuring ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end, including setting direction, aligning stakeholders, and owning outcomes.
- Ability to prototype hands-on, building a PoC with stakeholders rather than only writing requirements.
- Strong prioritization and tradeoff skills, including visible “no” decisions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication across data engineering, operator, and executive audiences.
Technologies you’ll work with
- LLM, foundation-model, Hex, Looker
How you’ll operate
- Structure from ambiguity: bring direction to cross-disciplinary initiatives and align stakeholders instead of waiting for direction.
- Ruthless, visible prioritization: clearly state what will not be worked on, not only what will.
- Hybrid pioneer/settler approach: build initial prototypes with stakeholders, validate the use case through the roadmap, and move to production when justified.
- Ecosystem fluency: understand how Mariana’s data connects to downstream systems and to the current frontier of LLM capability to keep prioritization decisions well-calibrated.
Nice to have
- Product ownership of a data platform, warehouse, or analytics stack in production.
- Experience with BI/analytics tooling strategy (Hex, Looker, or embedded analytics).
- Experience shipping LLM-powered or agentic internal tools.
- Background in mining, energy, chemicals, manufacturing, or other heavy industry.
- Experience leading the transition from spreadsheets and scripts to supported software.
Compensation
- Compensation Range: $115K - $208K
