The University of California Office of the President seeks a Product Manager for Financial Applications in Oakland, with remote work options, to lead the product strategy, roadmap, and business relationship management for systemwide financial and budget applications. This role directs the work of business analysts and collaborates across Finance, Budget, IT, Procurement, and Accounting to drive modernization, automation, and improved financial processes, including Oracle Financials and related planning tools.
Responsibilities
- 25% Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define and maintain the technology strategy and roadmap for financial and budget systems, including Oracle Financials (ERP, FCCS, EPBCS, ARCS, EDMCS). Align system capabilities with business goals, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. Lead the modernization of legacy financial and budget applications, adopting cloud-based and SaaS solutions. Collaborate with IT, Finance, and Budget leadership to drive continuous process improvements and automation.
- 25% Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison between Finance, Budget, IT, Procurement, and Accounting teams to prioritize initiatives based on business impact, operational efficiency, and compliance needs. Advocate for finance and budget users, ensuring seamless user experiences and optimal system performance. Work closely with IT architects and developers to define solution designs. Collaborate with campus locations, systemwide budget offices, and UCOP finance teams to ensure alignment with UC.
- 20% Leadership & Business Analysis: Direct the business analysts to gather and document functional business requirements and align solution delivery with product and business objectives. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to gather input, resolve conflicts, and build consensus on product direction and priorities. Manage business analysts and work closely with business leaders and IT professionals to develop technical requirements, anticipate service needs, streamline/automate processes.
- 10% Change & Vendor Management: Work closely with business leaders and IT professionals to deliver effective change management efforts, including stakeholder training and communication. Ensure milestones and deliverables are met by coordinating with internal and external teams. Work with third-party vendors and supplier Oracle to implement best-in-class solutions.
- 10% Financial & Budget Systems Support: Define and maintain roadmap for the ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and support of finance and budget systems including Oracle Financials, Oracle Budgeting & Planning (EPBCS). Provide support to engineering teams for troubleshooting financial and budgetary data discrepancies. Ensure compliance with UC system-wide financial and budget policies and regulations. Identify opportunities to automate financial and budget processes, improve forecasting accuracy.
- 10% Documentation & Reporting: Maintain product documentation, user guides, and business process workflows for financial and budget applications. Generate reports on system performance, adoption, and user feedback. Provide periodic updates to executive leadership on budget system enhancements and financial technology initiatives.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a Product Manager, Senior Business Analyst, or similar role focused on financial and budget applications.
- Demonstrated experience providing product management leadership for finance management technology, including cloud-based financial applications and financial/budget data integration.
- Expertise in financial administration, particularly within the financial technology sector.
- Familiarity with financial audit requirements for enterprise systems.
- Experience leading financial and budget system implementations, upgrades, and process automation projects.
- Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, including finance, budget, IT, and executive leadership.
- Knowledge of budgeting methodologies, financial forecasting, and cost allocation strategies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience communicating effectively with senior executives.
- Demonstrated experience as a people manager, including direct supervision of staff, performance management, and day-to-day operational oversight.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, IT, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
