Digital Transformation/AI Product Owner
Job Description
APS is looking for a product leader to help define digital strategy, shape product vision, and drive delivery from inception through production. This onsite role in Phoenix, AZ is focused on aligning teams and stakeholders around clear outcomes, translating business and user needs into actionable requirements, and supporting successful adoption through training and change management.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the point person on product development teams, using a high-level perspective to define goals and create the digital strategy and vision for development projects.
- Balance time between the team to focus on the what (not the how) and engagement with stakeholders, including leadership and stakeholders across business areas, to maintain organizational alignment and gather feedback.
- Represent the business or user community and work autonomously with user groups to determine which features are included in product releases.
- Act as a primary liaison between the development team and customers/users, ensuring clear understanding of feature needs and building a firm understanding of the business domain and varying user needs.
- Work as a business strategist across multiple business units to identify new opportunities and define mission, scope, and desired outcomes using digital solutions that enhance user experience.
- Maximize product and solution value by identifying key value drivers, defining metrics and targets, and assisting with prioritization and sequencing based on quantified value and strategic outcomes.
- Define product requirements and identify user stakeholders, ensuring requirements from end users are translated and understood by developers.
- Assess completion of desired deliverables and ensure work related to the product is completed to end-user satisfaction.
- Conduct research and competitive market benchmarking to identify potential solutions that can be leveraged in APS’s environment.
- Identify functional best practices and industry standards to incorporate into products and solutions.
- Communicate requirements to stakeholders throughout development, release, and final production release; work independently to drive progress and champion necessary cultural change.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather bi-directional feedback, remove roadblocks, and implement change.
- Drive decision-making by identifying which stakeholders to engage and framing relevant decision options.
- Deliver training, revised processes, and communication and change management practices to support product success, adoptability, and sustainability within the business.
- Manage the product or solution through the entire life cycle, from inception through production delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelors’ degree in business, information technology, or analytics related field.
- PLUS ten (10) years related business and/or consulting experience in business solution development and delivery.
- In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience totaling fourteen (14) years is required.
- In-depth understanding and experience in business operations.
- Demonstrated people leadership skills, business partnering, and collaboration skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Great customer service, organizational, and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to manage customer expectations.
- Ability to work independently with a mindset geared toward doing work differently.
- Ability to provide training and change management to ensure success of new project roll-out.
- Proficiency in PC applications, including advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience within the utilities sector is highly preferred.
- Experience and/or aptitude with digital solutions such as automation, mobility, and visualization.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and standards impacting business unit areas.

CIP Requirement
- This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
- The applicant will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position.
- A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check) to fulfill CIP access requirements.
- An additional background check is required every seven years to maintain access.
Work Location and Scheduling
- Onsite: Work performed in the field and/or at an APS facility.
- Depending on role responsibilities, this may include working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.
- Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
- Role types are subject to change based on business need.
