Hardware Product Manager

PassiveLogic is building electronics hardware that powers autonomous building control. As a Hardware Product Manager (onsite in Holladay, UT), you will shape the product vision and roadmap for real-world HVAC and building-control applications, turning customer needs into clear requirements and guiding cross-functional teams through launch and continuous improvement.

What you’ll own

• Hardware product strategy and roadmaps: Define vision, positioning, priorities, and lifecycle strategy for electronics hardware products, balancing customer value, feasibility, business impact, and long-term platform goals.
• Customer needs to requirements: Understand building owners, operators, engineers, installers, and other users, then translate their needs into use cases, acceptance criteria, product decisions, and requirements.
• Cross-functional development through launch: Work with electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, systems, design, test, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams from early concept through validation, launch, and ongoing improvements.
• Product tradeoffs and alignment: Evaluate customer value, technical performance, cost, schedule, reliability, manufacturability, and supply-chain constraints to recommend the right path for the intended outcomes.
• HVAC and building-control integration: Apply controls and connected-device understanding to ensure electronics hardware integrates effectively with HVAC equipment and building systems.
• Context and decision clarity: Communicate strategy, requirements, priorities, decisions, progress, and risks so alignment holds across engineering and company leadership.

What you bring

• 5+ years of experience in product management, technical product management, or a closely related role, including direct responsibility for electronics hardware products.
• Experience guiding electronics hardware through the full lifecycle: customer discovery and requirements definition, validation, launch, and ongoing improvement.
• Technical education: BS/MS/PhD in electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, or a related technical field.
• Ability to use customer insight, market analysis, business priorities, and technical constraints to define strategy and roadmap decisions.
• Strong working understanding of electronics hardware development, including printed circuit boards, embedded firmware, prototypes, verification and validation, certification, manufacturing readiness, and product release.
• Exceptional communication skills, with strong clarity on the “what” and “why” behind product decisions.
• Strong organization and strategy: roadmaps, prioritization, dependency coordination, and decision-making that supports customer needs, technical goals, and business objectives.
• Collaborative, cross-team mindset across engineering, test, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer-facing stakeholders.
• Adaptability in a fast-paced startup where insights evolve and teams iterate quickly.
• Problem-solving ownership: clarify underlying customer and business needs, bring the right people together, and drive decisions through resolution.
• Demonstrated ability to ship electronics hardware in a complex, cross-functional environment.
• Hardware and software systems thinking where electronics hardware, embedded firmware, and cloud or application software operate as one cohesive system.
• Product documentation experience including product requirement documents, use cases, acceptance criteria, decision records, launch plans, and leadership updates.
• Close alignment with leadership (including the CEO) throughout development to meet product vision and goals.

Helpful experience

• HVAC and building controls knowledge (strongly preferred): HVAC control hardware, building automation systems, direct digital controls, controllers, sensors, actuators, thermostats, or related equipment.
• Electronics technical knowledge: familiarity with printed circuit boards, microcontrollers, embedded firmware, power supplies, wired and wireless communications, enclosures, environmental constraints, and hardware test practices.
• Hardware commercialization knowledge: bills of materials, component lifecycle management, certification, cost targets, supplier relationships, manufacturing, and production ramp.
• Relevant industry experience: building automation, HVAC, energy systems, IoT, industrial controls, robotics, or other areas combining electronics hardware with software and real-world control.
