Principal Outbound Product Manager
Job Description
Principal Outbound Product Manager roles focus on turning AI and agentic automation capabilities into clear market strategy and repeatable customer adoption across BMC’s Digital Business Automation portfolio.
- Define go-to-market targets for assigned AI offers, including target segments, buyer and user personas, and priority use cases
- Develop value hypotheses and business cases with customers using agreed baselines for time-to-value, productivity, operating cost, and quality
- Own positioning and competitive insight for assigned AI offers in partnership with solution marketing
- Clarify product capabilities and limits including what the product can do today, maturity, deployment requirements, and constraints without promising unproven autonomous reliability
- Lead launch and market-readiness plans with product and cross-functional teams
- Align launch enablement for adoption by coordinating use-case story, launch criteria, reference architectures, demonstration paths, seller assets, and customer-success readiness
- Build and validate demonstrations with architects and AI engineering
- Enable the field and partners with practical discovery guides, objection handling, and hands-on training that connects technical behavior to business value
- Recruit and support early design partners and early-access customers
- Define and run pilot evaluation with entry and exit criteria, evaluation methods, business baselines, and production-readiness gates; convert results into credible customer evidence
- Drive pilot-to-production with customer success and delivery teams
- Build repeatable adoption playbooks by identifying barriers to activation, integration, and sustained usage, rather than treating a successful demo as the finish line
- Make trust and control part of the value narrative
- Partner with engineering and security to explain permissions, grounding, evaluation and failure modes, human approvals, governance, and auditability
- Support strategic customers and sales opportunities through discovery, executive discussions, and solution validation
- Represent assigned offers with analysts, partners, and at industry events using evidence and real customer needs
- Close the feedback loop to product by translating customer, field, competitive, and usage insights into recommendations for inbound product management
- Influence priorities with evidence while keeping roadmap and implementation ownership with product management and engineering
- Contribute to packaging and commercialization with market and customer input, including pricing recommendations
- Test usage economics where applicable by validating how usage, quality, cost, and customer value trade off, rather than assuming “more consumption” increases benefit
- Measure adoption and readiness and share learnings across the portfolio; mentor peers and help teams make sound decisions across functions without relying on reporting-line authority
Requirements
- 10+ years in enterprise software across product management, outbound product management, technical product marketing, presales, or solutions roles
- Strong launch record plus substantial direct customer experience
- External ownership of enterprise AI/agentic offering beyond demonstrations, with customer pilots that led to measured production adoption
- Hands-on familiarity with large language models, retrieval and grounding, tool use, and agent workflows
- Strong positioning and communication skills, including experience translating complex technology into clear customer outcomes and enabling field and executive conversations
- Customer validation design capability: distinguishing promising experiments from production evidence and building ROI cases from agreed baselines rather than unsupported projections
- Influence across functions with engineering, marketing, sales, and customer-success, exercising judgment in ambiguous markets and initiating work from strategy through execution
- Degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience
