Product Manager – Integration Tools (Modbus & BACnet)
Job Description
Copeland’s Electronics & Controls business unit supports food retail leadership and home energy management and comfort control. In this hybrid role based in Kennesaw, GA, you will help shape integration tools that improve how customers connect building automation, HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial systems.
You will own the strategy, roadmap, and performance for the Modbus and BACnet integration tools portfolio, guiding products from concept through end-of-life. This includes setting direction, defining technical requirements, leading cross-functional delivery, and measuring adoption and business impact.
What you’ll do
- Own the Integration Tools Portfolio from concept through end-of-life, including product planning, feature prioritization, lifecycle management, quality improvements, and long-term product strategy.
- Lead product strategy and roadmap by building a multi-year plan for integration tools and connectivity solutions based on customer needs, market opportunities, technology trends, and business objectives.
- Define integration strategy and customer value by understanding workflows, integration challenges, and interoperability requirements to simplify integration across building automation, HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial control systems.
- Drive technical product requirements by translating customer and market needs into detailed requirements for Engineering, balancing technical feasibility, customer value, and business priorities for Modbus, BACnet, and related protocols.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Software Development, Marketing, Sales, Technical Support, and Customer Success to deliver high-quality releases and ongoing improvements.
- Engage customers and industry through VOC research with OEMs, system integrators, distributors, and end users, and by representing the business at industry events, standards organizations, and customer engagements.
- Monitor market and competitive landscape by analyzing trends, interoperability standards, competitor offerings, and evolving communication technologies to identify innovation opportunities.
- Ensure product performance and business success by measuring adoption, customer satisfaction, and business performance and supporting business cases for new investments and strategic initiatives.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with BACnet and Modbus integration tools, gateways, protocol converters, or building automation systems.
- Industry experience in one or more of HVAC, Refrigeration, Building Automation/Building Controls, Industrial Automation, or Energy Management Systems.
- Strong technical understanding of BACnet, Modbus RTU/TCP, industrial communication protocols, and system integration principles.
- Experience gathering customer requirements and translating them into prioritized product requirements and development roadmaps.
- Product management and analytical skills to prioritize competing initiatives and make decisions.
- Excellent communication skills to present technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
- Agile experience working with software development and engineering teams using Agile or similar methodologies.
- Travel up to 20%.
- US legal work authorization; sponsorship will not be provided.
Preferred experience and skills
- Master’s degree (MBA or Engineering discipline preferred).
- 3–7 years of Product Management experience managing software, controls, connectivity, or integration products.
- Deep technical knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and other building automation or industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, REST APIs, or LonWorks.
- Experience with BAS, supervisory controllers, PLCs, edge controllers, gateways, or IoT connectivity platforms.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE BACnet standards and interoperability certification processes.
- Experience working with OEMs, system integrators, controls contractors, and building automation partners.
- Knowledge of HVAC/R controls, refrigeration systems, industrial automation, or smart building technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to develop roadmaps and prioritize features using customer feedback, technical complexity, and business impact.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority and drive product launches from concept through commercialization.
Flexible work schedule
- Hybrid eligible with the expectation to be in the office at least three days per week.
