Product Owner
Job Description
At Caterpillar, this onsite Product Owner role is centered on CatDealer.com, the dealer-facing digital hub that helps power day-to-day dealer productivity and supports customer outcomes. You will own product vision and strategy, guide the capability roadmap, and partner across engineering and governance to deliver reliable, compliant, user-centered experiences.
What you will do
- Define and maintain the CatDealer.com product vision, strategy, and capability roadmap aligned with enterprise priorities, dealer network needs, Caterpillar digital standards, and long-term business goals.
- Create, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog covering site capabilities, user experience improvements, search configuration needs, accessibility remediation, compliance requirements, monitoring enhancements, documentation, and support improvements.
- Translate product strategy and stakeholder inputs into requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release-ready scope for engineering and delivery teams.
- Serve as the voice of the dealer and business customer by gathering, consolidating, and communicating feedback from dealers, field teams, support channels, content owners, business leaders, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead sprint and release planning with application engineering teams, including requirements readiness, design alignment, business sign-off, UAT planning and execution, regression testing, Go/No-Go decisions, deployment coordination, and retrospectives.
- Take accountability for product health, including capability, quality, availability, performance, accessibility, legal and regulatory compliance, access control capability, incident response, service-level expectations, and corrective actions to sustain compliance.
- Partner with content owners to support content delivery, search engine configuration, site organization, and discoverability of product information, service resources, business guidance, training, and communications.
- Coordinate with technical architecture, engineering, platform, maintenance, product support, customer support, legal, compliance, accessibility, and dealer-facing teams to resolve issues, manage dependencies, and deliver stable enhancements.
- Identify, document, and communicate product issues, defects, risks, and improvement opportunities, ensuring follow-through across support, engineering, business, and governance channels.
- Maintain product documentation and release communications, including stakeholder updates, governance materials, and inputs for budget and resourcing, along with value measures for transparency and operational readiness.
What you bring
- Knowledge of business analysis practices and the tasks, techniques, and tools used to identify business needs, with the ability to recommend value-driven solutions.
- Knowledge of decision-making processes and tools to analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Knowledge of software change request management, including managing software product change requests from users and internal staff.
- Knowledge of software engineering to deliver new or enhanced software products.
- Knowledge and strategies for resolving software problems and managing software issues.
- Understanding of the business aspects and operation of a software product, including current uses, future plans, and product vision.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in business, information technology, computer science, engineering, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Experience in product ownership, product management, or digital platform delivery.
- Strong understanding of Agile practices and backlog management.
- Ability to define requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Experience working with technical, business, support, and compliance teams.
- Strong communication, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of accessibility, compliance, search, and user experience concepts preferred.
- Dealer and Caterpillar business knowledge preferred.
Compensation and location
Location: Peoria, IL (onsite). Salary: USD 128,470 - 208,770 per year.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
