Senior Product Owner

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is hiring a Senior Product Owner to lead product execution in a hybrid work environment across complex, high-impact initiatives and, when applicable, multiple products. In this role, you will manage the sprint backlog, translate customer and business priorities into actionable work, and partner closely with delivery teams to define product and backlog artifacts with minimal oversight.

You will serve as a key bridge between business and customer stakeholders and the teams responsible for delivery, ensuring expectations are clearly represented and aligned to the customer roadmap. The position also includes mentoring and coaching responsibilities to support team capability and consistent backlog quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal team members to ensure customer needs and business priorities are communicated and reflected in the product backlog.
• Support streamlined execution by working with stakeholders and delivery teams to define user stories and own the team and sprint backlog.
• Decompose features into user stories or smaller work items to enable team planning and delivery.
• Use product manager and stakeholder input to map product vision into user stories.
• Act as liaison between business/customer and the delivery team, representing expectations across interested stakeholder segments.
• Develop and maintain business knowledge for an assigned spoke or business area.
• Define user stories and support team members as they write user stories.
• Mentor and coach other staff members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required).
• 5+ years of experience in a related field.
• In lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience in a related field.

Work Location and Hybrid Options

This role is based in North Carolina (hybrid). Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina uses a Hybrid Flex approach built on intentional in-person connection: in a Hybrid-Flex role, you’ll work in the office at least two days per week for collaboration. In a Remote Flex role, you’ll work virtually with a few in-office visits each year. Whether the role is Hybrid Flex or Remote Flex depends on the nature of the work and distance from Durham headquarters, and onsite expectations will be discussed during the interview process. Compensation

The salary range is USD 107,901 - 172,642 per year. Base salary is part of a Total Rewards package that includes an Annual Incentive Bonus*, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs. The Annual Incentive Bonus* is based on annual corporate goal achievement and individual performance.
