Founding Product Manager
Job Description
Lumen Energy is hiring a Founding Product Manager to join its technology team as the first dedicated product manager. This role will own the commercial solar and storage marketplace product roadmap, guiding work from discovery through delivery and measurement to support a clean energy transaction experience.
Role Overview
The Founding Product Manager reports to the Head of Engineering and partners closely with Engineering, Sales, and Marketplace Operations. Responsibilities include evolving a prioritized roadmap, defining success metrics, and maintaining a consistent user research practice across building owners, solar and battery developers, and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Own and continuously evolve a prioritized product roadmap for Lumen’s commercial solar and storage marketplace, grounded in real user feedback, business priorities, and defined success metrics.
- Shape product work from discovery through implementation-ready prototypes, ensuring proposals are clear enough for engineering execution without frequent clarification to remove ambiguity.
- Act as a connective point across Engineering, Sales, Ops, and Leadership, synthesizing competing inputs and driving aligned decisions while keeping delivery on track.
- Define success metrics before features ship and track post-launch impact to verify whether outcomes improve.
- Run an ongoing user research practice by engaging building owners and solar developers on a regular cadence, translating learnings into product decisions and roadmap priorities.
Requirements
- 5+ years of product management experience in a high-growth or startup environment, including end-to-end ownership from discovery through delivery and measurement.
- Fluency with AI-assisted product development workflows, using LLMs to speed prototyping, research synthesis, and spec writing.
- Strong visual and UX sensibility, especially since there is no dedicated designer.
- Strong written communication, including producing PRDs or similar documents that capture business context and customer needs clearly for engineering and AI-assisted development.
- High agency and influence, including experience owning and defending a product roadmap and making hard prioritization decisions under resource constraints.
- Business acumen to evaluate trade-offs among user value, technical complexity, and commercial impact, connecting product decisions to business outcomes.
- Strong user research skills, including designing and running customer interviews, synthesizing qualitative findings, and converting insights into product priorities.
