Packaging Product Design Engineer

As part of Apple’s Packaging PD team, you will design and execute structural packaging for all Apple products, covering everything from shippers through finished-goods boxes. The work is focused on protecting products during shipping, supporting a high-quality customer experience, and advancing sustainability goals.

You will collaborate across a broad set of partners as packaging moves from early design into build and manufacturing readiness, with an emphasis on practical engineering that holds up in real-world conditions.

What you’ll do

• Design and execute structural packaging for all Apple products, spanning shippers to finished goods boxes.
• Partner with a wide range of teams including Industrial Design, Marketing, Environmental, Operations, and others throughout the design process.
• Support engineering build activities by investigating root causes for failures and proposing solutions when issues block build progress.

Education and experience

• BS degree with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Science.
• Experience working with 3D CAD and 2D CAD.
• Preferred: 3 years of related industry experience.

Skills and qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to travel up to 20% to support engineering build activities, including finding root cause for failures and solutions for issues that impede build progress.
• Preferred: Prototyping experience.
• Preferred: Data-driven design approach to complex problems.
• Preferred: Experience with a design cycle from concept to manufacturing in mass-production.
• Preferred: Knowledge of material science and FEA.
• Preferred: Knowledge of fiber-based materials.
• Preferred: Effective verbal and written presentation skills.
• Preferred: Innovative thinking and high personal motivation.
• Preferred: Flexibility and comfort working in a quickly changing environment.
