Product Design Engineer - Softgoods

At Apple, Softgoods Engineering turns textiles and soft polymers into products that feel as impressive as they perform. You will work in customized labs alongside industrial design and multidisciplinary teams to design, engineer, and develop Softgoods architectures and products for categories including Vision Pro, AirPods Max, HomePods, and others. The role supports hands-on prototyping and the opportunity to integrate electrical and mechanical components into soft products that are both breathtaking and highly functional.

What you’ll do

• Own Softgoods architectures and drive design, development, and shipping of Softgoods products intended to amaze and delight customers.
• Partner with the Industrial Design team to design and build prototypes and iterate toward production-ready solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists across Apple to create Softgoods products for Vision Pro, AirPods Max, HomePods, and new product categories.
• Apply design experience and intuition to define Softgoods architectures and execute end-to-end product design and delivery.

Key skills and qualifications

• BS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• 3+ years of product design with extensive CAD experience
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to a multi-disciplinary team

Softgoods materials and assembly processes differ significantly from traditional engineering materials and manufacturing methods, so you will learn how to adapt product development accordingly.

In these customized labs, you will gain experience integrating electrical and mechanical components into Softgoods, helping create products that are highly functional as well as visually compelling.

Preferred qualifications

• MS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• NX experience
• Previous Softgoods and/or wearables product design

Compensation and benefits

Salary: USD 134,700 - 203,000 per year. Location: Boulder, CO (onsite).
