Job Description

Echo Incorporated is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team that develops, improves, integrates, and manages the lifecycle of outdoor power equipment products. This onsite role in Lake Zurich, IL combines strategic product thinking with hands-on technical leadership across design, component selection, cost reduction, manufacturability, quality, and new product introductions. Compensation is USD 145,000 per year.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of design and project engineers to deliver department and company objectives.
  • Oversee mechanical component and assembly development from concept through production, ensuring alignment with performance, manufacturability, quality, and cost goals.
  • Drive technical evaluation and implementation of engineering changes to strengthen reliability, improve quality and customer satisfaction, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to raise product quality, reduce costs, and improve manufacturability.
  • Manage project timelines, priorities, and deliverables to support business goals.
  • Coordinate collaboration across engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, and sourcing teams.
  • Facilitate communication and technical collaboration with Echo’s Japanese parent company Yamabiko, including alignment on development priorities, engineering standards, and business objectives.
  • Lead design reviews and provide expert technical guidance to ensure adherence to engineering best practices and established standards.
  • Support product enhancements, feature improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and component obsolescence management.
  • Contribute to product sourcing and lifecycle activities, including component selection and make-versus-buy decisions.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Product Management to support successful new product launches and ongoing product performance.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams and suppliers to integrate third-party technologies, components, and systems into finished products.
  • Ensure products and engineering changes meet performance, safety, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements across the product lifecycle.

What you bring

  • 3–5 years of direct supervisory or management experience leading engineering teams.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, technical drawings, and ability to demonstrate best practices.
  • Expertise in mechanical design principles, mechanical systems, design for manufacturing, injection molding, metal components, and related manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent English communication skills to lead meetings, collaborate cross-functionally, and work effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Experience with engineering change systems (ECR/ECO), ERP systems, and BOM workflows.
  • Proven success leading design teams and delivering problem-solving solutions for complex engineering projects.
