Job Description

Burton is hiring a Product Operations Manager - Packaging to oversee the end-to-end packaging process for Burton products. This on-site role in Burlington, Vermont brings together product operations, commercialization, supplier coordination, and brand presentation to help packaging land successfully and improve over time.

In this position, you will manage packaging intake through delivery and execution across key Burton retail lines, partnering closely with internal teams, external contractors, factories, and packaging suppliers to support packaging goals, business goals, and continuous process improvements.

What you’ll do

  • Manage development, commercialization, implementation, and stabilization of packaging for Burton, [ak], AG, and MINE77 retail packaging across Softgoods, Hardgoods, and Anon product categories.
  • Coordinate with the Packaging Production Designer and contractors to deliver packaging dielines and mechanical files to suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Run packaging-specific cross-functional calendars and stakeholder meetings in alignment with Product Operations and Marketing Operations milestones.
  • Support brand presentation and execution of printed packaging with Marketing, Brand, Retail, and Visual Merchandising teams.
  • Partner with Product Development Commercialization and Merchandising Strategy to execute costing and forecasting of packaging materials via direct, nominated, and factory-sourced partners.
  • Surface opportunities to improve packaging across design, sourcing, process, and materials, including collaboration with the Environmental Impact team toward Burton sustainability goals.
  • Act as the central point person for packaging creation, advising Product, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Trade teams on packaging feasibility and constraints.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Trade, and Sustainability partners to help ensure packaging meets applicable regulatory and reporting requirements across Burton markets.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Education, training, or experience in the packaging and print industry, along with product manufacturing and commercialization.
  • Knowledge of packaging commercialization processes and calendars, including dieline creation, file sharing, print production, and packaging materials.
  • Experience working with factories and packaging suppliers.
  • Project management, stakeholder management, and cross-functional communication experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written, verbal, video, and in-person formats, including with partners in different time zones and with English as a second language.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive) and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Comfort learning new tools and systems quickly.
  • Comfort working within ERP and supply chain management systems to track packaging materials, timelines, and inventory across suppliers and factories.
  • Curiosity and a persistent approach to solving complex, nuanced problems.

Compensation and eligibility

  • Salary: USD 65,000 - 80,000 per year depending on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, and available budget.
  • Base pay is reflected in the range above and does not include any potential bonus and other benefits.
  • Relocation assistance to move to Vermont is available to any candidate who is hired.

Work location

  • On-site role based in Burlington, VT
  • Required to be on site at Burlington HQ at least 4 days per week
  • Burton can currently hire for this position in: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
  • Candidates must reside in one of these locations at the time of hire.
