Senior Digital Product Owner
Job Description
Caterpillar’s Cat Digital team is looking for a Senior Digital Product Owner to partner with cross-functional teams and shape AI-powered, customer-facing digital experiences across Cat.com. This role helps define and sequence product work, co-owns the roadmap and backlog, and sets up measurable, responsible, and scalable AI outcomes.
Working closely with product, engineering, design, and analytics partners, you will turn customer needs into actionable requirements and guide execution from discovery through experimentation and performance measurement.
What you’ll do
- Work with the Product Manager to prioritize and sequence delivery so efforts address the right customer problems and business results.
- Serve as the day-to-day contact for the application engineering team by clarifying tasks and refining the backlog.
- Coordinate with engineering partners to streamline work and manage dependencies across platforms.
- Co-own the product roadmap with the Product Manager and define measurable business outcomes.
- Define, prioritize, and maintain the roadmap and backlog for AI-powered customer experience initiatives for Cat.com.
- Partner with product management, UX, engineering, content, analytics, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that improve customer engagement, discovery, and decision-making.
- Gather, refine, and document business requirements, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics for emerging digital experiences.
- Help shape intelligent customer-facing capabilities including conversational experiences, personalization, recommendations, and guided digital interactions.
- Collaborate with AI, data science, and engineering teams to evaluate solution options, understand technical tradeoffs, and deliver scalable product experiences.
- Work with UX and research to identify customer needs, validate concepts, and optimize user journeys using testing and feedback.
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for customer adoption, engagement, and business impact.
- Lead experimentation efforts such as pilot programs, usability testing, A/B testing, and iterative improvements.
- Ensure AI-powered experiences align with business objectives, customer expectations, and enterprise standards for privacy, accessibility, security, and responsible AI.
- Align stakeholders by communicating priorities and progress and driving execution across multiple teams and disciplines.
- Monitor industry trends and customer experience innovations to identify opportunities for future product enhancements.
What you bring
- Knowledge of business analysis tasks, techniques, and tools to identify business needs and recommend solutions that deliver value.
- Knowledge of decision-making processes and techniques to analyze situations and reach productive decisions.
- Knowledge of software change request management and the ability to manage change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.
- Knowledge of strategies, practices, and tools for resolving software problems in installed software products.
- Knowledge of business aspects and operations of a software product, including managing install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision.
- Knowledge of UAT activities, tasks, tools, and techniques to design, implement, and evaluate acceptance tests for end-users.
- Proven experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, or similar role delivering customer-facing digital products.
- Experience defining product requirements, writing features and user stories, and managing product backlogs in Agile delivery environments.
- Strong ability to translate business objectives and customer needs into actionable requirements for UX, engineering, and data teams.
- Experience with customer-facing digital experiences such as e-commerce, online retail, or product discovery solutions.
- Experience working with modern AI capabilities, including LLMs, conversational experiences, intelligent recommendations, and generative AI applications.
- Understanding of AI product concepts including prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), grounding, evaluation, and responsible AI practices.
- Experience collaborating with UX, design, engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using data and customer insights to drive product decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving, matrixed environment.
