Senior Manager, Product Design, GEA & Accelerator

Capital One’s Accelerator team is focused on solving complex, enterprise-wide challenges using human-centered product design. In this Senior Manager role, you’ll combine design craft with people leadership to shape product direction, strengthen design strategy, and build a culture where skilled designers can deliver measurable outcomes.

This hybrid position is based in McLean, VA, and the scope spans customer-centered discovery, cross-partner alignment, and portfolio-level problem solving across product and technology stakeholders.

Role focus

• Co-create innovative solutions by blending design craft, customer understanding, and people leadership.
• Drive product strategy and cultivate a high-performing team culture of designers.
• Shape product direction and outcomes using deep design expertise, user insights, and business understanding.
• Advocate for human-centered methodologies that connect customer needs to business goals through data, research insights, and mature problem-solving.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of products, processes, customers, competitors, and broader market trends to guide how Design engages across the portfolio, including scope adjustments.

Design leadership and delivery

• Oversee and optimize the use of tools, platforms, frameworks, and design systems.
• Guide the creation of design artifacts such as vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs, and prototypes.
• Own a problem-solving approach (issue, impact, resolution) and apply judgment when balancing competing priorities.
• Bring strong creativity to exploring solution spaces.
• Engage partner expertise across the organization to support workstream projects and identify the people needed to move work forward, including compromise to deliver strategic outcomes.
• Present work across levels and job functions, integrating design frameworks with data and research to make complex topics accessible and actionable.

Collaboration and alignment

• Drive alignment across product, tech, and business partners, keeping user needs central to overall strategy.
• Manage stakeholders, remove barriers, and train and develop designers so they can reach their potential and help the business achieve its goals.

Required experience

• At least 6 years of experience in a Product Design role.
• At least 6 years of experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
• At least 2 years of experience in a people leadership role.

Preferred qualifications

• At least 8 years of experience in a Product Design role.
• At least 8 years of experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
• Experience contributing to an established design system.
• Experience collaborating with product, tech, and business leaders.
• Experience leading design projects or teams.
• Experience working in heavily regulated, data-heavy problem spaces.

Location, salary, and work model

• Location: McLean, VA (hybrid)
• Salary (McLean, VA): USD 200,700 - 229,100 per year
• Hybrid policy applies, with required on-site presence at your designated office location.
• Salary by location: New York, NY: $219,000 - $249,900; Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300.
